How To Fix macOS Ventura Printing Issues
If you’re still experiencing printing problems after macOS 13.1 update you can try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Turn Off Firewall
If the built-in firewall is turned ON it might interfere with your printing system. You can disable it in:
System Settings -> Network -> Firewall.
2. Reinstall Printer Drivers
Your printer might require fresh drivers updated for macOS Ventura. However, before you install them make sure that you properly delete the old ones first:
- 1. Go for System Settings -> Printers & Scanners.
- 2. Click on your [printer name] and use the [-] to remove it.
- 3. Repeat if there are multiple printers using the same driver until all are removed.
- 4. Open Finder.
- 5. In the top-left menu bar, click on Go and select Go to Folder.
- 6. Type: /Library/Printers/ and click Go.
- 7. Delete the folder named after your printer. For example, Canon.
- 8. Finally, install the new macOS Ventura driver from your printer manufacturer’s website.

Huston!!!! We have a Printer problem!!!!
Printer, Sharp MX-5050v, stopped working after MacOS 13 Ventura was installed.
Have you tried to remove and re-add printer? Over and out…
Canon MF244 printer stopped printing/scanning after OS 13.01 Ventura upgrade on 2019 MBP
Thanks for reporting. I assume that you tried the forget and re-add printer fix?
Have a 2022 MacBook Air M2 Ventura 13.0.1. Brother says that they don’t have a driver for this . Printing with Print & Scan isn’t working very well What can we do about this . Is there a Driver coming soon or do i have to buy a Printer that has a Driver for this.
Thanks for reporting. Can you define ‘isn’t working very well’? What problems are you exactly encountering?
The printer settings aren’t working as they are suppose to do with Brother I print and scan when selecting the printing option under All settings like Size, Printing size % and other selections . Brother hasn’t got a driver for the MacBook Air M2 Ventura 13.0.1 I even looked at other printers but can’t find one that works with the Ventura 13.0 1
Updated Ventura 13.0.1 today and now Canon TR 7520 printing all my documents upside down and backwards. No driver updates & I am in so much trouble doing end of the month reports. Ugh!!
Uh that must be incredibly frustrating. Are you seeing an “Print pages in reverse order” setting that’s checked?
MacBook Pro 2021 installed Ventura 13.0.1 and pdf printing on HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw no longer working. Printer can be found on network, can print Word, web docs, etc… – but pdf dead-in-the-water. Since most of my docs are in pdf – HELP!
Thanks for reporting. That must be annoying indeed. Does it work if you go to an online pdf to word converter print your documents as word files? I know it’s a time consuming workaround but it should be temporary until Apple issues a fix.
The problem, dear Patricia, seems to be communication with MacOS 13.0.1, as my EPSON Stylus Photo R-280 Printer Driver is not being detected, although the USB-connected printer is being correctly identified. As with my automobile, no driver, no action. Back to the drawing board. Yes, the Mac mini 2018 is plugged in.
Updated and connected epson 3530 to MacBook air (macOS 13.I) Can get information on ink levels etc. but will not print.Press printer image in dock and message appears “failed filter” . What does this mean and is an update likely to contain a fix/
You’re using macOS 13.1 (the beta version?) or macOS 13.0.1? We’re hopping for a fix to be included in the upcoming 13.1 release expected before the Holidays.
Unable to connect to HP7134 with Ventura 13.1 via wifi. Also, just moved from ADSL to fiber optic. Just in time to print Christmas cards..NOT! Tried different things but comes back always to printer not found.
Hmm, thought that printer problems have been solved after this update. Have you tried to remove and re-add printer?
Yes I did delete and reinstall. I got it to work with Direct password but then it takes me off the internet. Kind of annoying and don’t want to do that all the time. Not sure if printer was working when I updated to Ventura and only updated to 13.1 today. I did just recently upgrade internet from ADSL to fiber.
Thanks for the follow up. Not sure what else to suggest at the moment.
PDFs will not print on a HP LaserJet Pro M454dw via Wi-Fi. Running Ventura 13.0.1 on a M1 Macbook Pro. Have installed and reinstalled printer. Prints everything but PDFs. Can print PDFs if I go to Print > Advanced > Print As Image but this is a pain.
Just updated to Ventura 13.1 the same problem continues…
Have you managed to fix it in the meantime?
macOS 13.1 is available. You can update and let us know if it helps:https://www.iphonetricks.org/macos-13-1-issues-features-bugs-fixes-ventura/
Update: Just saw your follow up that you updated in the meantime and the problem persists. Not sure what else to suggest at the moment. Let us know if you have any breakthrough.
Unable to connect to Brother MFC-J6530DW printer since updating to 13.1
Are you using wireless or wired connection?
The problem is yall are on mac. Windows is the business industry go to for a reason. Apples hard-core oversight prevents timely rollout of drivers leaving you guys years behind or forced to upgrade hardware way too soon.
Brother DCP-L2540DW series scan does not work since uploading 13.1 NOT HAPPY… have removed and reloaded many many times and can not get it to work.
Sorry to hear this. Are you using wired or wireless connection?
Just changed to ventura. Using EPSOM WF-2630 with Macbook pro. Printer would not print out singe page , so printed out page of software. Only fragments of page printed. Printer worked perfectly for years before this.Luckily nothing urgent to print. Add printer does not recognise my wireless printer.
Believe it or not … I printed a note from my 8 year old Mac and the printer printed it out fine. I also had my new Mac which had been updated to Ventura open at the printer page at the time and to my surprise the printer name suddenly appeared in a list of available printers. I selected the printer and to my great surprise it seems to be functioning correctly> Seems like the old machine somehow steered the new machine to work – showing it the printer .Im pleased!!
That’s a strange workaround. Thanks for sharing it. Glad you fixed it!
Just tried scanning some documents on my hp envy 7640 and got blank pages. Tried updating the drivers and discovered my printer has been discontinued. Any thoughts?
Sorry to hear this. Not sure what to suggest at the moment. Let us know if you have any breakthrough.
Duplex Printing. Unable to activate short edge binding when pamphlet printing. I have double checked setting in the print dialogue. Two sided checked, short edge checked. Makes no difference to the print output when short edge is unchecked. the second (even) page is always upside down.
MBP ‘M’ chipped. Affinity publisher V2.. Create booklet 2. both the same result. Samsung CLP-680 colour laser printer.
Thanks for the detailed feedback. We’ve forwarded your complaint to Apple. Let’s hope that they’ll take a look at it and issue a fix in an upcoming release.
Downloaded “Air Printer” from the Macintosh App Store. Seems to work , but not free!
Thanks for sharing. Can you pinpoint the app. There are a couple of them. A paid Air Printer app that we could identify is:
Air Printer – Manage and Print your Documents ($2.99)
However, we also found a couple of free ones. You should also check out these first:
Air Printer | Smart Print App (Free)
and
Smart Air Printer App & Scan
Printing to an HP LaserJet 1320 stopped with install of Ventura 13.0, Canon MG8120 inkjet prints. Updated to Ventura 13.1 today. Still no printing to the HP printer.
Thanks for reporting. Have you tried to remove and re-add printer?
Kyocera Ecosys laser printer not working with Ventura. This is my business printer so it’s a major problem. Have reinstalled driver time and again. Printer is connected ok, computer sees it, but it will only print a few documents, most do not print.
Thanks for reporting. Have you also tried to Reset Printer System in System Settings -> Printers and Scanners. Right-click on a blank space and go for Reset Printing System. Restart Mac. Go back to Printers and Scanners and Click Add to add your printer.
Just upgraded mi iMac to Ventura 13.1. Canon MF620C showing “stopped – filter failed” error. Already removed it, uninstalled drivers, reinstalled them and still not working
Thanks,
Thanks for reporting. Are you perhaps using a firewall in System Settings -> Network. If you do turn it off and try again.
Also make sure the you’ve probably uninstalled old drivers:
1. System Settings -> Printers & Scanners.
2. Click on the Canon printer and use the [-] to remove it.
3. Repeat if there are multiple Canon printers until all are removed.
4. Open Finder.
5. In the top-left menu bar, lick on Go and select Go to Folder.
6. Type: /Library/Printers/ and click Go.
7. Delete Canon folder.
After this, Install driver for macOS Ventura.
It worked. Thanks!
Great. You’re welcome. What helped? Deleting the folder or disabling the firewall?
HP Laserjet 1320 does not print double sided after Ventura update. Option now grayed out on printer menu.
Thanks for reporting. Have you installed Ventura compatible driver?
Hello, my Epson L355 can’t access the scannner and other features aside from printing using Ventura 13.0.1. Do you have any workaround now?
Thanks for reporting. Any particular reason why you don’t upgrade to macOS 13.1?
“Upgraded” Mac to OS 13.1; now multiple printing problems on home network using Epson ET 4850. This computer printed just fine before the “upgrade,” and two other computers in the house running OS 12 are printing just fine. Problems include (1) not printing or cancelling print after >10 min, (2) sometimes printing single partial page, (3) sometimes printing header about Epson remote printing, but no other text, (4) sometimes “filter failed” (5) sometimes “unable to communicate” (6) sometimes actually prints my job, but only after long wait. Attempted solutions: (1) downloaded and installed new Epson drivers, (2) uninstalled, fresh download , and reinstalled Epson drivers, (2) reset printers, (3) rebooted computer, (4) rebooted printer, (5) rebooted router, (6) turned off firewall. These attempts have been in varied order and multiple times. I can only conclude that the problem is with Ventura 13.1.
Thanks for the detailed feedback. macOS 13.2 has been released in the meantime. Let us know if it helps.
Macmini M2, Ventura 13.2.
non of my HP printers is working. Not even if it’s installed on another mac and shared over network.
Tried for hours and hours all workarounds and procedures i found.
Thanks for the feedback. This must be frustrating. Not sure what else to suggest. Let us know if you have any breakthrough.
I have the same issue, but re-adding the printer did not solve it. My printer is Epson ET3750.
My issue turned out to be related to WiFi. My MBP was connected to 5GHz band while the printer was connected to 2GHz band. With this config, my MBP was never able to find the printer in the network. When I reconnected my MBP to 2GHz band, it worked. I was able to add the printer and take printouts.
I am sure this is a bug by Apple. Every year Apple’s quality is going down.
Epson Et16600 can’t be added on OS Ventura V 13.2.1 on Mac mini M1.
It only detects “FAX” when trying to add the printer even though all epson drivers have been installed.
It can be added manually with the printer IP address but printing only works for a while then says “filter failed”.
Disappointing from both Epson and Apple.
Installed Ventura 13.2.1 on Mac 2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9 (2018)
Canon MX860 now prints blanks
(nozzle working … line tests fine)
planned obsolescence … vexatious
Printer Problem here, too. My Epson printer ET-4750 stopped working after the update to Ventura 13.3.1, any solution to this Apple? I need the printer.
Thanks for reporting. Did it work with some earlier Ventura version, or you jumped from Monterey?
I updated my MacBook to Ventura 13.3.1 (a) yesterday. Today my printer won’t work. It ‘s an HP Envy 5546. There are no error messages on the printer, the blue light is on etc. I have switched off the printer twice at the wall, but nothing has changed, my MacBook cannot connect to it.
Thanks for sharing. Can you please confirm that your printer worked with a previous Ventura version? Or you jumped from Monterey?
I have now sorted this problem. It was my MacBook Wifi, and changed to our Deco extender instead of our main Sky, possibly due to the OS update as that’s never happened before. As soon I connected to Sky, the printer started working – phew
Thanks for the follow up. Glad that you found the easy fix.
Brand New Mac Mini M2 basic monochrome laserjet. Auto downloads the driver, says its connected, sends the document and nothing happens. Deleted printer twice, gone to hp website for their driver easy setup program, says it can’t configure the driver after it downloads a 300mb file of a ton of crap I dont need. I was using a 2011 imac diy refurb that works petter than this POS!!!! RIDICULOUS
That’s crazy. Thanks for the feedback. Not sure what else to suggest at the moment. Have you tried contacting HP?
I haven’t contacted tech support for a computer in close to a decade. Just the fact that I am considering that option right now makes me nauseous lol Apparently I am having trouble coming to terms with the fact that I paid $45 for a computer, rebuilt it with no prior experience or training, worked without an issue for 6 years……now I finally come off the hip for latest and greatest and end up with a boat anchor mounted to the studs in my wall! Thanks for listening to my rant…..it was therapeutic : )
Your rant makes sense… if that helps and you definitely have a point. Wish I could be more helpful. Would appreciate a follow up after you solve this, coz I’m sure that you’ll get the hang of it one way or another…
