This issue has been reported by Medina:
“I’m not able to configure voicemail. I get error message and I’m asked to try again later. any advice?”
We couldn’t replicate this problem but have found similar complaints on Reddit (1,2 and 3):
“It won’t let me setup a voicemail! Please help me iPhone SE 2022 16.4.1.”
Fact: users that upgrade their device or purchase a new iPhone are experiencing this voicemail issue after performing the switch from their older devices!
How To Fix Voicemail Error Try Again Later
Apparently, there’s no universal solution available at the moment. We recommend you to try the following:
1. Change Voicemail PIN
In most cases this Voicemail error pops up after the user of a new iPhone is asked to assign a PIN to this service. As suggested on Reddit, it seems that if you try to use your previous VM Pin the error is triggered, as s
Tip: Set up a different PIN from the one you previously used. Does it work?
2. Reboot iPhone
Sometimes a fresh start can do wonders. I recommend you to force restart your device and try to set up voicemail once again:
Briefly click & release Volume Up, followed by Volume Down. Next press & hold the Side button until the Apple logo is displayed on the screen!
3. Contact Carrier
Voicemail is a carrier-related service. Your provider has to support visual mailbox and the service has to be activated on the carrier’s side.
Even if the voicemail worked flawlessly on your previous device, I recommend you to contact your carrier and double-check if everything is set up properly.
