This issue has been reported by Dennis:
“My airpods case shows 0% although it just finished charging. is this a known 16.2 issue?”
We can also replicate the issue and have found many similar complaints on Reddit:
1: “16.2 gave me the 0% bug.”
2: “Same here. iPhone 14 Pro on 16.2 AirPods Pro Gen 1.”
3: “Me too. Airpods 3 Case showed 0% (when it was 100%).”

How To Fix AirPods Case Showing 0
This new iOS 16.2 AirPods battery bug is thankfully just a scare! The case isn’t losing charge very quickly, it’s just a display error.
The battery widget wrongly displays the AirPods case battery level as 0, when actually the case itself is maintaining the normal battery charge.
Until Apple addresses this issue in an upcoming iOS 16.2.1 bug fixing release, here is what you can do to troubleshoot:
1. Bring AirPods Back In The Case
We’ve noticed that the AirPods case battery percentage displays the correct value when you bring the wireless earbuds back in the case and close the lid!

2. Use AirPods Case Status Light
You can also use the status light on the case to asses the battery life. If it flashes ‘green’ it means that your device is fully charged and you shouldn’t worry about connecting to a charger for now!

Yes I have this issue. When the pods are outside my case (or even 1 is out) , case battery drops to %0 in seconds, when I put the pods back in it shows the real percentage. I am using airpods 2. Even went to apple genius they checked it and said there was nothing wrong with it.

This is fully what happened: charged airpods for 2 hours and when I opened the box light didnt turn on, plugged in again showed 1 percent or sth. Charged the pods succesfully then pulled thrm out showed zero, talked to apple on the phone ı reseted them and the zero got fixed but still got an appointment. They plugged it to sth, checked the signals and stuff nothing wrong. When ı got home ı fully charged and noticed that it again dropped to zero when pods pulled out. I realized it after the appointment unfortunately. Arranged another one , this time I will show it and I have footage of it will let them see, will write their response later

I also have this same issue. Glad it just a bug and not a defect with my case. Hopefully the next iOS will update this

Have this problem on 10th gen ipad with first gen AirPods. The case is shown to have a dead battery, and if one AirPod is in it, that too shows up dead. Correct percentages show up when they’re charging though!

Apple has ‘fixed’ this the hard way in iOS 16.3. AirPods case battery level not showing anymore in Settings or widget unless airpods are in the case!
I have this same issue after updating to 16.3. I can only see battery percentage of the case when the airpods are in the case. Once the airpods are out the case, the battery drops to 0% display
Thanks for your feedback. Over here the battery indicator disappears completely when the AirPods are out of the case. It was showing 0% in iOS 16.2.
