AirPods Pro Free Service for Crackling Sounds
Apple has finally acknowledged the AirPods Pro crackling sounds problem and Active Noise Cancellation issue! The company has launched a service program! This means that if you own a pair of AirPods Pro you can bring them in to an authorized Apple Service Provider and have them fixed free of charge!
Apple claims that only a small percentage of AirPods Pro units might be affected by these manufacturing flaws. However, the support document claims that all AirPods produced before October 2020 qualify for the free repair. That’s literally all AirPods Pro sold until now.
Important: The AirPods Pro are the only models supported by this free repair service. This program is available worldwide! However, it doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the AirPods Pro, which is 2 years after the first retail sale of the product.
Fact: The AirPods Pro have been released exactly one year ago, on October 30, 2019. This means that all units sold until now can get a free fix for the crackling/rattling sound bug and Active Noise Cancellation problems!
AirPods Pro Service Program Symptoms
- Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone.
- Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise.

How To Service AirPods Pro
You can either visit nearby Apple Authorized Service Provider or make an appointment to the nearest Apple Retail Store.
Do mind that your wireless earbuds will be examined when you bring them it to verify program eligibility. If the issue is confirmed left, right or boths AirPods Pro will be replaced.
Important: The AirPods Pro case isn’t affected by this issue and won’t be replaced!
AirPods Pro Repaired Or Replaced?
Apple’s support document mentions that the defective wireless earbuds will be replaced once the issue is confirmed by a technician.
This means that either one or both AirPods Pro earbuds will be exchanged on the spot and you won’t have to wait for an in-store repair. The replacement units might likely be refurbished units, that have been already serviced. Or you might be lucky and get some brand new AirPods Pro.
