Affected users have mentioned that restarting both iPhone and AirPods won’t help as neither does removing AirPods and reconnecting.

However, you can try to factory reset the Bluetooth earbuds:

  • 1. With the AirPods connected, open Settings on iPhone and browse for Bluetooth.
  • 2. Tap the i icon next to the [Airpods name].
  • 3. Go for Forget This Device and confirm your selection.
  • 4. Bring back AirPods in their case, but keep the lid open!
  • 5. Reset AirPods by pressing & holding the Setup button for 15 seconds until the status light flashes amber and then white.
  • 6. Close the lid. Wait for 10 seconds. Open the lid and reconnect AirPods by following the on-screen instructions.
