Apple MagSafe charger for iPhone 12

Apple has revamped the MagSafe brand with the release of the iPhone 12 lineup. All 2020 flagships are MagSafe compatible and the Cupertino-based tech giant already provides a wide range of accessories that attach to the new iPhones, with a simple click, thanks to magnets!

The new MagSafe charger allows you to charge the iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max in the same manner you juice up your Apple Watch. The charger just snaps to the back of the iPhone and starts delivering power! This isn’t wireless but its more straightforward than plugging your cable in and out of the Lightning port.

  • Apple’s new magnetic charger provides faster ‘wireless’ charging with up to 15W.
  • The magnetic sweet-spot is compatible only with the iPhone 12 lineup, however the MagSafe charger can also juice up the iPhone 8 and newer models as long as the devices are properly aligned.
  • AirPods with a wireless charging case can be also charged with the MagSafe, Qi compatible charger.

Attention: MagSafe Charger Ships Without Power Adapter!

The Apple Watch-like charger retails for $39, but unfortunately, it comes without a power adapter!
You only get an 1-meter-long cable with an USB-C connector and the MagSafe charger at the other end!
This means that if you’re looking for fast charging you also need the 20W USB-C power adapter! The charging brick costs an additional $19. So, be ready to spend an additional $60 just to charge your $1000 iPhone.

MagSafe Charger Alternative

Of course, you always have the option to stick with the USB-C Lightning charging cord, that’s now included in the box. That’s if you hopefully have an older USB-C power adapter available at home from another device. Don’t think about older iPhone models because those have shipped with USB-A charging bricks.

And the costs will only increase if you want to use the new iPhone 12 models with headphones. The classic EarPods aren’t included in the box anymore, unless you live in France! Apple’s now sells them for $19. But perhaps you have some old ones already available at home!

What’s your take on this? Do you plan to purchase Apple’s MagSafe charger or are waiting for some other third-party magnetic charging solution? Use the comments option and share your thoughts!
