The problem has been initially reported by Dick in our watchOS 9.0 review page:
“Slow charging after update.”
This inappropriate behavior has been confirmed by Ryan:
“Apple Watch Series 6, OS 9. Charging is super slow, and usually doesn’t charge to full.”
We couldn’t replicate this issue, but have found similar reports on the MacRumors forums:
“watch series 6 gets to about 97% with a third party charger and then starts pinging every minute or two.”
How To Fix watchOS 9 Slow Charging Problem?
Based on several reports, the issue seems to be occurring only when third-party chargers are used.
Whether this behavior is intentional, or an accidental bug isn’t clear yet, but Apple Watch slow charging problems go away as soon as you switch for a genuine Apple MagSafe charger!
At the time of writing this is the only way to get around this issue. Most likely, Apple will address it in an upcoming software update!
However, if you don’t have the original Apple Watch charger anymore and you’re annoyed by the super slow charging and the ongoing pinging grab one now!
