Is Back Tap not working on iPhone after iOS 16 update? Double-taps and triple-taps aren’t recognized when this accessibility feature is set to Scroll Up or Scroll Down? You’re not the only one!

Back Tap Not Working iOS 16

This issue has been reported by Kevin:

“In iOs 16 on my iPhone 12 mini if you choose “Scroll down” or “Scroll up” as options for Back tapping, it doesn’t work anymore.”

We could replicate this issue on iPhone 12 Pro and 13 Pro models too. Bug seems to occur only when Scroll Gestures are selected. All other shortcuts work as expected!

How To Fix Back Tap Not Working

Unfortunately, an iPhone restart doesn’t help. This bug has to be patched by Apple in an upcoming software update.

However, you can use Assistive Touch as a workaround:
assistive touch scroll options

  • Open Settings -> Accessibility -> AssistiveTouch.
  • Turn On AssistiveTouch.
  • Tap the Digital Home Button.
  • Go for, Scroll and use the available scroll functions.

Tip: You can also select any other Back Tap action in Settings -> Accessibility -> Touch -> Back Tap, excepting Swipe Gestures. They will work!
