Related: Apple has also seeded iOS 16.2 (20C65), iPadOS 16.2 (20C65), watchOS 9.2 (20S361), tvOS 16.2 (20K362) and HomePod 16.2.
I have a problem after the final release of 13.1 on 12-13-22. I cannot change the default
web browser for .webloc shortcuts on the desktop. I’ve checked to insure Firefox is default
browser in Settings, Desktop & Dock. And that Firefox is set to always check if it’s default
and is set as default. Then when I right click on the .webloc file and choose “Get Info”
The ability to change to Firefox is grayed out and also the button “Change All” is grayed out.
No matter what I do, it always opens with Safari. Is anyone else having this issue?
I called support and after 30 minutes of trying many things, they told me I had to re-install
Ventura from the Safe Mode. I’d love to know if anyone else is having the issue before I go
through that exercise. PS – This is on an 2021 M1 iMac with Ventura 13.1. If others are having
the problem then the issue is in the OS and wouldn’t be fixed by a re-installation.
Thanks for any responses. Also, this worked just fine in 13.01.
Thanks for reporting this issue. I’ll ask my colleague to look into it and report back.
I have the same problem. Also clean installation.
Mac 14″ M1
Thanks for confirming Taavi. So, you updated to 13.1 via clean installation and are still facing the issue?
First clean installation 13.0.1 and update 13.1
Ok. This appears to be an macOS 13.1 bug. We’ve reported it to Apple. No workaround available at the moment.
Same issue. Chrome is default. Opens all links in Safari now. Can’t fix it.
Thanks for reporting Pete. We’re forwarding this to Apple via the Feedback app and will update this article in case a workaround is available. Do let us know if you have any breakthrough.
Thanks everyone. It would also help if you report this as a bug report directly to Apple. The more the better. I had a feeling this was an internal bug in the OS. You can report this as a bug report here:

Please use this feedback id (FB11876607) when reporting. It will link it to our initial report!
Oops…I replied wrong before. I’ll add my comment here where it belongs.
Thank you Patricia. (If you can, please delete my message I put in the wrong place.)
I see many other complaints of this same problem posted in the Apple Support Community. Seems the consensus is that this is a bug that will require being fixed in a future update.
Thanks for the update. We should expect macOS 13.1.1 before the end of the year, as we’ve covered plenty new iOS 16.2 bugs that would require a 16.2.1 release soon.
QuickLook (press spacebar) isn’t working anymore. It was a very convenient way to view a file without opening the associated program.
Never mind, just had to completely shut my Mac and restart. That solved it.
Thanks for the follow up. Glad that the classic fix worked out. Thanks for sharing.

You replied to the whole article not to a specific comment, so it’s hard to tell which issue you’re confirming. Please clarify. Thanks.
I tried to add it to the correct location but when I clicked send, it just disappeared.
I meant the comment to be under the default browser posted.
It’s showing up properly now. Thanks for the follow up.
Sorry. My bad. Can you move it under the default browser problem with .webloc files?
Now I have installed os13.1 the password box does not appear on the power up
Thanks for reporting. Can you share your Mac model? Haven’t see this issue yet. Are you able to boot in Safe Mode?
My mac is a studio ultra
I can enter the password blind and I can get onto my desktop.
Thanks
Thanks for the follow up and for the tip. Curious to find out if anyone else is experiencing the same.
Hello
2018 Mac Mini Intel maxRAM
Fresh install of 13.1
1) Cannot download Chrome to install. I click on the install chrome button and the URL goes right to a thank you url, but nothing is downloaded at all. Cannot find a workaround.
2) In software updates, I have a message that I need to confirm the new Terms and Conditions, but it won’t let me click on the box/link.
Thoughts?
Frustrated in Jacksonville
Thanks for your inquiry:
1. Are you trying to download directly from Google.com? (direct link here)
2. You’re talking about System Settings -> General -> Software Update? What update are you trying to install when you’re asked to confirm the new Terms and Conditions?
Chrome crashes when opening after I updated mac to ventura. any tips please?
Thanks for reporting. Try to reinstall it. If that doesn’t work try out the beta. More info here:

I have an iMac M1 2021 model. I upgraded from Ventura 13.0.1 to 13.1 and then it wouldn’t allow my passwrod for log-in. After talking to an Apple rep we were able to change my password which did not have numbers 7 ,8, 9 or letters j, k, l, or m.
When restarting the Mac a message comes up saying Mouse Keys On and an on-screen keyboard appears. The Mouse Keys are definitley off but it isn’t recognised at log-in.
When logged in with a different password, all keys work fine.
I have a Macbook Air which has Ventura 13.0.1 and there are no problems with any key.
Apple are working to find out what is the issue with my iMac.
Thanks for this report. Would appreciate if you could follow up and let us know if this was fixed in the meantime.
Ever since macOS 13, the focus filter on the Mac message app does not work, even doing all the troubleshooting steps and launching in safe mode. Any thoughts?
Thanks for sharing. Yes, we seen this reported by others. It seems to be an On and Off feature. Affected users say that the Focus Filter will start working again unexpectedly, only to fail again one day later and so on. We couldn’t find a trigger. Let us know if behavior is the same for you.
For me the option to turn off or on, isn’t there on the message app, even when I reset the focus modes numerous times… hopefully they fix this soon. So yes, the behavior is the same as others unfortunately.
Thanks for the follow up. We’ve reported it to Apple too.
Since the 13.1 update, I have stability issue with my externals screens
(I have a usb-c docking stationg, that use DisplayLInk to have 2 external screen on my mac m2)
It was all working well before the update, and now it deconnects the screen every 10min, and have to disconnect/reconnect the docking station to resolve.
( you can guess the productivity issue of that… thanks you apple -_- )
Uh that must be frustrating indeed. Thanks for sharing. We’ll forward it to Apple.
Unable to recover screenshots from Trash after this update. Getting ‘file doesn’t exit anymore’, but it’s obviously available in the trash folder. can you help?
Thanks for reporting. You can get around it by dragging and dropping the file from Trash to your Desktop. More details here:
https://www.iphonetricks.org/trash-put-back-not-working-on-mac-fix/
Mail attachments icons not showing in the message body event though they are listed in the message header.
If I open a “html” file on TextEdit and edit it, it automatically changes the file format to “rtf”. There’s no possibility to save it again in html format.
If I open a file using TextEdit and edit it, the option box asking if I want to Overwrite the file or Duplicate it no longer appears.
I have a 2020 Mac mini. Having “Upgraded to 13,1 the Music app appeared in my dock and I can’t remove it.
I don’t know whether it is related, but all video files that I try to play constantly go from play to pause. I have the Mini on wireless k/b and mouse, and have removed the batteries from both to ensure that there wasn’t a sticking key or whatever, no change. Video still pauses and plays constantly.
I use the Mini for a lot of video playback and am currently unable to use the machine.
Thanks for reporting:
1. It works here if you right-click the Music app in the Dock and go for Options -> Remove from Dock. Is the option missing at your end, or not working when you go for it.
2. Haven’t heard about this issue before. Does it happen with any video player, or just the stock one. How soon are the videos paused? does it pause again if you play it for a second time?
Wat a total mess they made! Soda player not working anymore, so bye bye chromecast to my TV. Thunderbolt bridge is also not working anymore, so i can not longer drag and drop files from my imac to my macbook air.
And my macbook WIFI is so slow, it takes me an hour to download 2 Gb…
My god, apple sucks now harder then a Nilfisk!!
Thanks for sharing. Yeah that must be frustrating. Apple will release macOS 13.2 on Monday. Please let us know if the problems persist after you update.
“cannot change the default web browser for .webloc shortcuts on the desktop”
The problem has been fixed in the new 13.2 version.
Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate your contribution. Let us know if you encounter any other issues in macOS 13.2.
The icon for my attachments are almost invisible. They are there when I guess where they are but I can’t see the icon?
Thanks for sharing. Please update to macOS 13.2 and let us know if this still happens?
