Facebook will discontinue Messenger on Apple Watch! The instant messaging app will remain available for iPhone and iPad! You’ll still be able to receive notifications on your watchOS device, however, without being able to reply though!
Messenger On Apple Watch To Be Discontinued?
Various users have reported that they’ve been prompted with a notification at the top of the Chats section of the iOS app, that Messenger for Apple Watch will be discontinued starting with May 31st, 2023.
The notification is labeled ‘Changes to Messenger on Apple Watch’ and reads:
“After May 31st, Messenger won’t be available as an Apple Watch app, but you can still get
Messenger notifications on your watch.”
Fact: If you’re reading this post after June 1st and Facebook Messenger on Apple Watch is not working anymore, you now know why!
Messenger On Apple Watch Not Available?
From the 1st of June, the Messenger app for watchOS will stop working!
The most important implication is that you won’t be able to reply to FB Messenger messages from your Apple Watch anymore. You’ll have to grab your larger device and use the iOS or iPadOS app.
Fact: This looks like another marketing move performed by Meta. Apple Watch apps don’t have ads. Forcing the user to grab the larger screen allows Facebook to display ads in the chat section, thus make more money!
Important: This also shatters all hope of getting WhatsApp for iPad or even Apple Watch, as Meta and Apple seem to distance each other day by day.
What do you think about this incoming change? Are you a frequent Facebook Messenger Apple Watch user? Do you plan do ditch Meta’s app because of this shortcoming? Share your feedback in the comments!
