YouTube crashes on iPhone?


Is YouTube crashing on iPhone? App crashes when opening over and over again? You’ve recently updated to iOS 16 and are unsure if this is a software bug or if the problem is caused by a global downtime?

This issue has been reported by Maya:

“Youtube crashes on startup? Is this 16.1.2 related or a youtube issue?”

We can also replicate the problem on recently iOS 16.1.2 updated iPhone as well as on other models running 16.1.1 and 16.2 beta!

I could also find lots of YouTube crashing complaints on Reddit:

“Anyone else having this issue? iPhone 13, iOS 16.1.1 can’t keep the youtube app open for more than 10-15 seconds before it crashes.”

How To Check YouTube Downtime

Yes, this looks like a global issue that should be quickly fixed by Google Inc!

Workaround For YouTube Crashing iPhone

Apparently, there’s a way to continue using YouTube services during this downtime:

  • 1. Download and Install Video lite from the App Store (direct link).
  • 2. Open the app and tap on YouTube.
  • 3. You can sign into your account or just browse YouTube as it is.
  • 4. Play YouTube videos using this app and it should work! Does it? (Credits: Reddit).

    • Downside: 720p limitation, but it’s better than nothing!
