YouTube Crashing On iPhone In iOS 16? Global Outage? Fix!
Is YouTube crashing on iPhone? App crashes when opening over and over again? You’ve recently updated to iOS 16 and are unsure if this is a software bug or if the problem is caused by a global downtime?
YouTube Crashes iPhone?
This issue has been reported by Maya:
“Youtube crashes on startup? Is this 16.1.2 related or a youtube issue?”
We can also replicate the problem on recently iOS 16.1.2 updated iPhone as well as on other models running 16.1.1 and 16.2 beta!
I could also find lots of YouTube crashing complaints on Reddit:
“Anyone else having this issue? iPhone 13, iOS 16.1.1 can’t keep the youtube app open for more than 10-15 seconds before it crashes.”
How To Check YouTube Downtime
Yes, this looks like a global issue that should be quickly fixed by Google Inc!

It’s from downdetector.com and shows a huge spike of reports of worldwide YouTube outages including app, website (web version) and the actual video streaming services!
Workaround For YouTube Crashing iPhone
Apparently, there’s a way to continue using YouTube services during this downtime:
- 1. Download and Install Video lite from the App Store (direct link).
- 2. Open the app and tap on YouTube.
- 3. You can sign into your account or just browse YouTube as it is.
- 4. Play YouTube videos using this app and it should work! Does it? (Credits: Reddit).
Downside: 720p limitation, but it’s better than nothing!
