Every action that you perform on the Pokemon GO map, except of walking, brings you experience points. As with any game, there are a series of tricks and strategies that you can apply to maximize your XP collection and level up quickly. As you might already know you need at least Level 5 as a Pokemon Trainer to be able to enter a PokeGym and battle with other Trainers for supremacy. All the tips provided in this article work without requiring in-app purchases!
10 Tricks To Collect XP Points & Level Up
The tips presented below are listed chronologically. You don’t have to follow them one by one. You can create your own strategy, depending on your location and current PokeTrainer Level.
1. Premium Locations
It’s very important to find a productive location on your Pokemon GO map. As a general rule, city centers, parks and other real life places where it’s crowded and people swarm are optimal places to catch pocket monsters. The likelihood of Pokemons spawning on fields or in residential places is much lower. So, the more creatures you catch the more XP points you collect. Each Pokemon is worth 100 XP.
2. Check PokeStops
Every PokeStop that you visit and collect items from, brings 50 XP points or even 100 XP if it unveils more than 5 items. Premium locations are also filled up with PokeStops. More, each Stop can be revisited after 5 minutes providing you additional XP points each time you check-in.
Tip: Continue to visit PokeStops even if your bag is full. You’ll continue to gain XP, even if you don’t have room to collect items.
3. Add Pokemons to PokeDex
If you catch a fantasy creature that isn’t available in your dictionary you receive an additional 500 XP as a reward. Pokemons are added automatically to your PokeDex after you catch them.
4. Focus on Your Throw
When collecting Pokemons you have to throw and hit them with a PokeBall to bring them in your Backpack. Do mind that your throwing precision will bring additional experience points. There are three types of successful throws.
Nice brings 10XP, Great (50 XP) and excellent (100 XP).
Tip: You can also throw a curved ball, by swiping your finger in circles before releasing the ball. The attempt is rewarded with 10 XP, which isn’t that impressive, considering that it’s harder to aim.
5. Incubate & Hatch Pokemon
You have an Incubator available since the start. Once you collect your first egg from a PokeStop, tap the menu button available, centered, at the bottom of your map, go for Pokemon, switch tab to Eggs, select the item and Start Incubation. Depending on the egg you have to walk between 2 and 10 kilometers to hatch. When you complete the process a new Pokemon joins your squad and you get between 200 and 1000 XP, depending on how long the incubation was.
6. Evolve Pokemon
Evolving your monsters brings 500 XP for each cycle. However, it’s debatable if you should wast your resources to evolve Pokemon in the early Pokemon Trainer levels. The idea is that the higher your level is the better creatures will spawn and reach your backpack. As a general rule evolving doubles the CP (combat power) of a Pokemon. So, you it’s ideal to evolve only when the Pokemon already has a high CP.
7. Throw an Incense
Position yourself nicely in a crowded location with plenty of PokeStops around. Throw an Incense (you have 2x from the start) . This will significantly increase the amount of Pokemons spawning next to you.
8. Place a Lure Module
Use PokeStops to attract Pokemon hordes by opening the PokeStop and placing a Lure Module inside! Remember, the more monsters you catch the more experience you win!
9. Lucky Egg – Double or Nothing
On top of everything mentioned at points 7 & 8 throw a Lucky Egg on the map and it will double all XP collected within the next 30 minutes. If you time and egg to hatch in this time frame too, you can easily collect 20,000 XP within half an hour.
10. Train & Conquer Gyms
For every battle you gain experience points. You can visit a friendly PokeGym, conquered by your own team and train your Pokemon to build up the Gyms prestige points. For every Pokemon you defeat in training you’re awarded 10 XP. However you collect 10x more if you defeat a rival Pokemon!
