This unexpected behavior has been reported by Mia:
“Apple carplay plays music automatically every time it connects to my iPhone. How can I stop this?”
We couldn’t replicate this issue, but it appears to be a common problem as we found several reports on websites like Reddit:
1: “I have a bunch of songs imported onto my music app and it always starts playing automatically when I connect to wireless apple carplay or cable connection to car stereo.”
2: “How do I make Apple Music stop auto playing whatever song it wants when I start my car.”
How To Stop Music Automatically Playing On CarPlay
There doesn’t seem to be an universal fix for this annoying behavior. However, here are a few workarounds:
1. Turn Off Autoplay From Your Car
First of all make sure that you have the autoplay option turned off from your car’s dashboard.
Some cars have this setting but often even if it’s set correctly it still auto starts a random song from Apple Music.
2. Pause Before Disconnecting
Next, try to pause playback before you leave the car and iPhone disconnects from CarPlay!
Fact: Some cars seem able to remember the last setting and Apple Music will remained in paused state when you reconnect.
3. Quit Apple Music
This is inconvenient, but you will solve the issue if you uninstall Apple Music and switch for Spotify or Tidal.
Apparently, the built-in Music app is the default audio player that your car is looking for whenever it connects to your iPhone.
4. Disable Bluetooth
Perhaps the most unpopular solution is to turn off Bluetooth on your iOS device. However, this will prevent your iPhone from connecting to your car altogether thus rendering all its other useful functions unusable.
