iPhone Home Bar Not Disappearing (YouTube Bug – Fixed!)
Is the iPhone Home bar not disappearing when watching YouTube videos? You switch to full screen mode and the bar remains permanently on? It only changes color from white to black without hiding from the bottom of the screen? This is caused by a fresh YouTube bug!
iPhone Home Bar Not Disappearing
Although problems coincide with the release of iOS 15.5 our tests have shown that the issue isn’t triggered by the new software updates.
It’s a bug that’s affecting iPhone models that haven’t updated to the latest iOS bug have installed the latest YouTube app version in the App Store instead. As soon as users update to Version 17.19.2, the home bar displays permanently at the bottom of the iPhone screen.
How To Fix iPhone Home Bar YouTube Bug
(Update, May 20): The bug has been fixed! Google has issued a software updated for the YouTube iOS app. I’m talking about version 17.19.3. Tap here to update now!
Unfortunately, there is no workaround for this. Restarting iPhone doesn’t help. The home bar won’t disappear when users watch YouTube videos in full-screen (landscape mode).
Offloading and reinstalling YouTube doesn’t work either. You can try it in Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage -> YouTube -> Offload App -> Reinstall App.
You can tell that the iPhone home bar turns black (from white) after a couple of seconds, right when it should hide, but it sticks on the screen instead.
We can only wait this out patiently until Google LLC issues a bug fixing update for this YouTube bug. The issue is only affecting the iOS version of YouTube, everything fine on Android.
Fact: Stay tuned! We will update this article as soon as an update is available or a workaround is found.
What’s The iPhone Home Bar?
The horizontal line that’s appearing at the bottom of the screen of a new generation iPhone (a newer model that doesn’t come with a Home Button anymore). Its role is to hint users that they can swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to the Home screen.

The new update didn’t fix it for me :/
Thanks for reporting Ryan. That’s strange. Can you please inform us what iPhone model you own and confirm that you’re on iOS 15.5?
Im with the iphone 13 pro max myself, 15.5 software version, just talked with youtube support and they told me that they will try to work on the problem… But yeah the update didn’t work and everything works fine on android so i guess its just the iphone
Thanks for the details. So, strange. iPhone 13 Pro here and the bar hides naturally after YouTube update to Version 17.19.3.
Have you tried to Offload and Reinstall YouTube?
Did litteraly everything, doesnt work on the pro max
Thanks for the feedback. YouTube has just released Version 17.20.3. Does this update fix the home bar on your Pro Max?
No the 17.20.3 update still doesnt fix the issue… idk at this point
Thanks for the follow-up. Let us know if anything changes. We’ll also update the article as soon as more info is available.
Offloading didn’t help. Reinstalling did until I restarted YouTube. Signing off from YouTube account made the bar transparent (instead of white). Logging in back made it white again.
Sorry to hear this. What iPhone model are you owning? That’s so strange. I’m on an iPhone 13 Pro and this bug has been fixed for me as you can see in the second screenshot uploaded in the article.
After the new update i still have the issue… hope they fix this soon enough
Thanks for the feedback.
