Cannot Change Mailbox In Mail Widget?

choose a mailbox unresponsive
This issue has been reported by Christoph (iOS 16.2 RC):

“Unable to edit mailbox in the Mail widget on home screen. I’m stuck with VIP after updating to this RC build. Any ideas?”

We couldn’t replicate the issue, using the same firmware, but have found similar complaints on Reddit:

“Can’t switch mailbox in mail widget, has been like that since the early betas.”

How To Fix Choose A Mailbox Unresponsive In Mail Widget

Here are some of the common troubleshooting options that you should apply:

1. Reboot iPhone

First of all, you should reboot your device. A fresh start can clear minor glitches, including some with widgets.

We recommend you the force restart combo! It’s the fastest option. Once the device boots back up, try to edit the Mail widget again. Does it work?

2. Re-Add Mail Widget

If it’s still stuck displaying the VIP mailbox, you should remove the widget and add it back.

In fact, you could combine step 1 and 2:

  • 1. Touch & hold the Home Screen to enter edit mode and use the ‘-‘ sign to remove the Mail widget.
  • 2. Reboot iPhone.
  • 3. Re-add the widget and try to edit!

3. Reinstall Mail App

If that didn’t help either your next option it to remove Mail and install it back on your iPhone or iPad. Try first to offload it:
1. Go for Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage -> Mail -> Offload App -> Reinstall App.
2. Open Mail, or else the widget won’t show up in the Add Widget menu.
3. Add it and try to edit the mailbox.

Tip: If the issue isn’t fixed, you can delete the app altogether and reinstall it from the App Store (direct link).
