FaceTime Not Working On Mac?
This issue has been reported by Peter:
“Face Time no longer works after upgrading to Ventura 13.0. Any fixes?”
We couldn’t replicate this problem and have been able to find a single other complaint on Apple’s Discussion Forums:
“Why is FaceTime not working in new Ventura?”
Is FaceTime not working for you too, or we’re dealing with isolated cases an not a macOS Ventura bug. Please share your feedback in the comments section along with any other useful details. If this is a bug indeed, we’ll use the info and this post as documentation to report the issue to Apple!
How To Fix FaceTime Not Working On Mac
Below you can find some common workarounds that you can apply to fix this problem:
1. Restart Mac
First, make sure that you flush any minor glitch that could prevent FaceTime on Mac from working properly. A reboot could definitely help:
- Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen and use the Restart option.
- Be patient until Mac reboots, input password to sign back in.
- Open FaceTime and try to dial. Does it work?
2. Select Video Source
If you see a black screen in the FaceTime app make sure that the proper camera is selected. macOS Ventura comes with a new Camera Continuity feature and your Mac might use your iPhone’s main camera as webcam.
However, if you’re not ready for this and the iPhone is placed on a desk, camera down, you might see a black screen. To fix this you have to tweak FaceTime settings in:
- Video (top-left menu bar) and select FaceTime HD Camera under Camera settings.
3. Sign Out and Sign Back In
If FaceTime continues to to work on MacBook we recommend you to Sign Out and log back in to see if it helps. This is done in:
- FaceTime (top-left corner of the menu bar) -> Settings -> Sign Out.
- Restart Mac.
- Open FaceTime and sign back in using your Apple ID!

These proposed solutions didn’t work for me. Thank you for posting though.
Sorry to hear this. Have you updated to macOS 13.0.1?
Yes I have and it’s still not working :(
AFter uploading Ventura, on my new MacAir, when someone calls me on Facetime, I get the notification sound, but there’s no way for me to answer (Facetime app disappears). If I quit and restart Facetime, then I can call the person back. My iphone works fine. If I turn OFF Facetime in my Iphone, then the Facetime on my mac works again.
Thanks for confirming. This must be caused by a FaceTime handoff glitch. The feature is new so it might require more fine tuning in the upcoming updates.
I am running Ventura 13.1. When someone calls me on FaceTime I can answer, but I don’t see their image, just a circle with their Initials. I can hear them, they can see me. The call works on my iPad and my iPhone. I have followed the instructions above and I still have the same problem.
Sorry to hear this. Not sure what else to suggest. Have you tried connecting your iPhone with an USB cable and see if video shows up?
Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68 iMac & IOS 16.3.1
When I click accept incoming FaceTime calls often the call drops out. I can make outgoing calls but incoming calls seem be an issue. Handoff works fine on other apps.
I have logged out/in Apple ID, reset FaceTime; any other tips?
I’ve been having this same exact issue too. What worked for me was turning off the Handoff feature. This can be found under Settings > General > Airdrop & Handoff > Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.
Unfortunately it affects Handoff for Safari too, but hoping I can turn the feature back on when the FaceTime bug is fixed.
