How To Fix FaceTime Not Working On Mac

Below you can find some common workarounds that you can apply to fix this problem:

1. Restart Mac

First, make sure that you flush any minor glitch that could prevent FaceTime on Mac from working properly. A reboot could definitely help:

  • Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen and use the Restart option.
  • Be patient until Mac reboots, input password to sign back in.
  • Open FaceTime and try to dial. Does it work?

2. Select Video Source

If you see a black screen in the FaceTime app make sure that the proper camera is selected. macOS Ventura comes with a new Camera Continuity feature and your Mac might use your iPhone’s main camera as webcam.

However, if you’re not ready for this and the iPhone is placed on a desk, camera down, you might see a black screen. To fix this you have to tweak FaceTime settings in:

  • Video (top-left menu bar) and select FaceTime HD Camera under Camera settings.

3. Sign Out and Sign Back In

If FaceTime continues to to work on MacBook we recommend you to Sign Out and log back in to see if it helps. This is done in:
