The iPhone’s stock Messages app gets a series of enhancements and new features in iOS 14. One of them is the option to mention someone in a reply. This addition is particularly useful in a group conversation, when you want to attract the attention of a specific member from the discussion. This way you also make sure that the mentioned contact knows that the reply is directed to him and increases your chances of getting a timely reply.

Mentions have been available for a long time now in other third party apps that prove text-based group communications like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and more. The iOS 14 Mentions feature together with the Inline Replies option greatly enhance the group chat experience of the native Messages app.
