Calendar Search Not Working iOS 16
This issue has been reported by Allan:
“I have no search ability in the Calendar after the IOS 16.1.2 update.”
We couldn’t replicate this issue, but have found similar complaints on the MacRumors forum:
“Anyone else having calendar search problems on the new iOS 16? Search is coming up with “no results” even though the event is obviously on my calendar.”
How To Fix Calendar Search Not Working On iPhone
If you’re encountering the same please proceed as follows:
- 1. Open Settings and tap on Apple ID at the top of the menu.
- 2. Go for iCloud.
- 3. Tap Show All, in the ‘Apps using iCloud’ section.
- 4. Turn Off Calendar and select Delete from My iPhone.
Tip: Readers like Becca confirmed that the fix works without deleting! You can also select Keep on My iPhone! - 5. Wait a couple of seconds and turn Calendar back ON.
Tip: Be patient until the data syncs, open the app and search for an event. Does it work now?

That worked for me. Thank you very much!
It worked!! Thank you so much! But I clicked other option. Keep on iPhone. Then turned back on in a minute.
Thanks for confirming!
It didn’t work for me!
Sorry to hear this. Try again please.
It worked for me as well! Thank you! I was nervous to delete it but it worked out fine! Thanks a bunch!
Thank you! This worked for me! I guess the updated didn’t completely sync the calendar! It took only a minute to fix! I have two of the same phones. One wasn’t finding my calendar events and the other was. It was a software issue! Thank you for sharing this fix!
Yes!!!! Had me scared there after I deleted! But all came back and the search is working!
Glad it did. Thanks for confirming!
Thank you! That worked
You’re welcome! thanks for confirming!
Thank you! That worked first time!
Great! Thanks for confirming.
Did not work , and I can clearly see the event on my calendar.
Sorry to hear this. Have you also tried to reboot your iPhone and see if it makes a difference?
I did this because people said it worked… and now everything on my calendar is gone
Give it a bit of time for the calendar to re-populate.
My calendar doesn’t show anything when I search, but I’m nervous about tapping the ‘delete form my iphone’ after reading that everything was erased from your calendar! Did the information ever restore?
Yay! I was nervous to try this but it worked! Thank you!
You’re welcome. Thanks for confirming.
Is it back yet ?
This did not work. I am on 16.2, the latest update. I have turned the phone on/off multiple times. I have synced for everything. I have deleted and reused the calendar app. I have all calendars turned on and the events show on the calendar. Totally frustrated. The search works on my MacBook Pro but not on my iPhone.
Same thing for me. 16.2 has clearly screwed up search. I can find events created since the software update and invited appointments from external sources but nothing I put in before updating. Google calendar search works fine on the same data but only goes back 1 year. A vital tool seriously compromised. QA seems to be an old fashioned concept.
I also have tried what David and Katrina and other forums suggest, and it didn’t work. I use my calendar and search multiple times a day (and need it to search back beyond 1 year) and so I am very very hopeful Apple resolves this ASAP. Thank you.
1 day later after my comment above, and followed the same steps again, my Search function restored(took over 12 hours to reload after completing the suggestions). The following day, not working AGAIN!!! My search function is again absent and I cannot have this when I use it so much. Please please Apple, fix this ASAP!!!!
Thanks for the detailed feedback. Not sure what else to suggest at the moment. We’ve reported this to Apple and are keeping an eye on it.
Thanks for confirming David. This Calendar problem has been reported to Apple (FB11923183) Let’s hope that it will be addressed in an upcoming software update.
Same for me since upgrading to 16.2. I have an iPhone 12. Have done all suggestions and restarted phone.
Thanks for your feedback.
Many thanks – that worked for me
Great! Thanks for confirming.
This worked for me. Thank you!
Great. Thanks for confirming!
IT WORKED! THANK YOU!!!!!
Great! You’re welcome.
it worked! You do not need to delete from iphone. Just toggle off… wait… toggle back on… wait.
Great! Thanks for your feedback.
Thank you, for this suggestion, T ! I’m a total “tech challenged” person & was afraid to delete anything so I followed your fix & it worked !
Did not work for me. I have 14 pro my husband same update version on 12 mini works fine. Maddening. Updated. Rebooted multiple times. This suggested fix. Is there another product? this is big loss i use calendar for all and search all the time.
This worked for me thank you!
Brilliant! Thanks for confirming.
Tried multiple options with Apple support but nothing has brought back my calendar. 16.2 has now produced entries from 2016-2018 only & yearly reminders like bdays but everything else still missing. They dismissed in the end saying it was a hotmail issue – glad to see via this it’s not! Let’s hope it gets fixed soon!
Thanks for the feedback. Have you updated to iOS 16.3, any change?
Didn’t work for me and I did it twice 😢.
Sorry to hear this. Have you updated to iOS 16.3.
I tried this recommended fix before (on 16.2) and after updating to 16.3 and my search will go between bringing up no events and bringing up only some (whether past or future). I have done everything in addition to this: restarted my phone, checked that all the groups are showing, checked that all events are synced. I have no idea what to do to fix this!
Thanks for sharing. Have you updated to iOS 16.3.1 in the meantime?
Thank you this worked perfectly, nothing was lost on my calendar
Great. Thanks for confirming.
Worked perfectly!!
Great!
Much appreciated. It works!!
Great! Happy to help!

Great it worked! iPhone 14 pro Thank you!
THANK YOU!! Worked!! I’m always nervous when someone tells you to “delete“. But I read the comments and trusted, and it worked! Thank you again for sharing your expertise.
didn’t work for me.
Yes, it worked. I first noticed the issue in iOS 16.3.1., but thanks to your help, it’s fixed now. I can’t thank you enough!!
It worked for me and didn’t delete just selected “keep on iPhone”. Once synced again, search is working-thank you SO much!!
I tried ALL of the above without success. The I found a solution.
After doing all of the above I went into the general calendar settings and REMOVED the calendar from the phone. I verified that the calendar was empty. Then I re-added the calendar and waited a few seconds for it to sync. Now all of the events are searchable.
GENERAL –> CELENDAR –> ACCOUNTS Find account DISANLE the calendars – Wait a bit Re-enable the calendars IT NOW WORKS!
Worked for me as well. Thanks so much.
The problem I’ve had since this update is getting search results on my iPhones google calendar and this fix doesn’t resolve it. I can’t find any solution anywhere online if anyone has any suggestions I’d appreciate it. I only use google calendar on my iPhone and it always worked fine until this update. Thank you.
hi!
The same issue is happening to me on google calendar app on iPhone only. I tried the solution, but it didn’t work. Any suggestions?
Worked perfectly – thank you
iPhone SE 16.3.1. Calendar search does not work. Tryed all fixes. Syncs ok.
Found google calendar app in App Store. Instead of open, update button available. Updated google calendar. Took a few seconds while updating. Open button now showing. Opened google calendar. Search option restored.
wow, it worked! needed about three minutes for things to re-appear on the iphone calendar. now search reveals everything it should
Thanks for confirming! Glad it did!
DO NOT DELETE just turn on and off worked like a charm❤️
Glad it does. Thanks for the tip. Updating it in the main content of the article!
Oh this worked! Put the phone down for a bit after I tried it, and when I came back to check it the search worked. This has been driving me crazy, so happy to have a solution finally.
Glad it did. Thanks for confirming!
My search functionality with 16.4.1 was restored by following the directions to turn off the calendar, delete it, wait, then turn it back on. Thank you very much!
You’re welcome. Thanks for confirming!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I use the search function in my calendar a lot and was completely miffed. Glad to have it back!
You’re welcome. Glad it worked out!
I couldn’t get the Calendar to turn all the way off, but just ‘jiggling’ it got the search function working again. Unfortunately, now I’ve lost access to my Family calendar where all our most important appointments are listed!!
That worked! Thanks
iPhone 11
Great! Thanks for confirming.
