Getting call failed error on iPhone after iOS 16 update? You’re unable to dial or receive calls although cellular signal is available? Issue persists in 16.2 version as well as the initial 16.3 beta?
iPhone Call Failed iOS 16 Error?
This issue has been reported by Luke (iOS 16.3 beta 1):
“Call failed error when trying to call someone although cellular coverage is maximum.”
We couldn’t replicate this issue but have found a similar complaint on Reddit for the same iOS 16.3 beta version:

“Cellular signal is fine but suddenly people are not able to call me… Same happens with me, I am unable to call anyone, it says ‘Call failed'”.
as well as the public iOS 16.2 release:

“Had this just after updating to 16.2. Could never understand why, simple reset of my phone fixed it. Never had it since.”
How To Fix iPhone Call Failed Error
Apparently, the easiest and quickest way to solve it is by rebooting your device!
You can also try to cycle the Airplane Mode first, in the Control Center. Turn it ON for a couple of seconds and turn it back Off to force your device to connect to the nearest cellular tower.
Fact: Although your iPhone is displaying maximum signal strength the cellular coverage could’ve gone idle unexpectedly!
Tip: If the Airplane mode trick doesn’t help we recommend you to perform the force restart combo:
- Click & release Volume Up, followed by Volume Down and press & hold the Side Button until the screen goes black and the Apple logo is displayed.
Permanent Fix For iOS 16 Call Failed Error
If the problem reoccurs you should troubleshoot by resetting network settings:
- 1. Go for Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- 2. Tap Reset.
- 3. Go for Reset Network Settings.
Fact: You will have to reconfigure your WiFi connectivity after resetting, so make sure that you know your WiFi password. You can check in Settings as shown here.
