Apple has launched the long awaited MagSafe Battery Pack that can be attached to the back of any iPhone 12 model. It’s able to charge the device while on the go at 5W. Charging rate increases to 15W when plugged into a 20W charger. The accessory has an 11.13Wh battery!
Apple MagSafe Battery Capacity
This wireless charging accessory has a battery capacity 1460 mAH. This means that it can only provide a partial iPhone 12 battery charge. That’s around 50% of the iPhone 12 / 12 Pro capacity.
For comparison’s sake the battery capacity of available iPhone 12 models is:
- iPhone 12 Mini battery capacity: 2227 mAh
- iPhone 12 / 12 Pro battery capacity: 2815 mAh
- iPhone 12 Pro Max battery capacity: 3687 mAh
Apple MagSafe Battery Pack Pricing
The Apple MagSafe Battery Pack retails for $99. It comes in white color and doesn’t include a power adapter or cable. Most likely you already have those at home. Apple recommends an USB-C to Lightning Cable and 20W USB-C Power Adapter.
How To Attach MagSafe Battery Pack
Attaching the battery pack to the back of the iPhone is very easy. Just let it snap to the back of your iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 mini or 12 Pro Max.
Fact: Charging starts automatically and stops as soon as you remove the MagSafe battery pack by pulling it gently from the back of your device.
How To Charge Both iPhone and MagSafe Battery Pack In The Same Time
For additional mobility you can charge both smartphone and the battery pack accessory in the same time.
- Attach MagSafe battery pack to iPhone.
- Plug accessory into a power adapter.

Apple MagSafe Battery Pack Facts
Charging Status: Can be checked on the Lock Screen and it the Battery Widget on the Home Screen and the Today View.
Tip: If Optimized Battery Charging is enabled on your iPhone, a notification on the Lock Screen might show up and inform you when the iPhone is scheduled to be fully charged. If you want to have it juiced up right away, tap the notification and go for Charge Now!
Does MagSafe Battery Pack work with a case?
Apple confirms that the wireless charging accessory works with an Apple MagSafe case. This means that you will be able to charge iPhone will its’s ‘wearing’ any other MagSafe compatible case, as long as it doesn’t include credit cards that could get in the way.
Tip: If you’re using a MagSafe Leather case with your iPhone you should remove it, if you want to avoid imprints caused by the MagSafe Battery Pack.
iPhone Overheating When Charging With MagSafe Battery Pack?
According to Apple this is normal. However, to protect the battery lifespan if the device gets too hot, charging will stop at 80% and will resume when the iPhone cools down.
