Posted in News by Mike on August 23, 2022Apple has released iPadOS 16.1 Beta build number 20B5027f for Developers and Public Beta testers. Update shows up as iPadOS 16.0 in the Software Update screen but is labeled 16.1 after the installation in Settings -> General -> About!
This confirms rumors that claimed that Apple plans to delay the release of iPadOS 16, because it plans to continue to fine tune new features like Stage Manager.
More, it seems that Apple is planning to host multiple events this autummn and will schedule iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 releases accordingly. New iPhone 14 with iOS 16 in September and new iPad models premiering iPadOS 16.1 in October.
iPadOS 16.1 Beta Update
- This release is available, over-the-air, in Settings -> General -> Software Update.
- It shows up as iPadOS 16.0 in the Software Update screen.
- Tap Download and Install and be patient until the update is requested, downloaded, prepared, verified and installed!
Fact: Of course, all this works if the iPadOS 16 Developer Configuration Profile is installed on your device. If your iPad runs a previous iPadOS 16 beta version, the Beta Profile is most likely still installed.

After installing iPad OS 16 (16.1 beta 1?) beta 7, wifi died. Settings shows the pad (12.9″ gen 5 2TB wifi) connected to the router. There is no wifi icon in the status bar and internet is not functioning. Went through all the usual potential fixes but no luck, not even using hotspot to the iPhone.
Thanks for sharing John. A similar issue was reported on Macs running macOS Ventura 13 Public Beta 3. For Macs fix is quite simple, in the System Settings app as shown here: https://www.iphonetricks.org/macos-ventura-wifi-not-working-greyed-out-fix/.
Regarding your iPad, do you have a 2.4Ghz or a 5Ghz WiFi network available? If the iPad prioritizes the 5G one, try to forget it and force the device to connect to the slower one.
Hey John, just in case you need internet connectivity, I found that one way to get it even on this update is to plug in a USB-C to ethernet adapter of some kind, and internet then works. Hopefully this is fixed soon.
IpadOS 16.1 Beta 1 – Cisco IPSec VPN not working.
Thanks for reporting. Have you tried to remove VPN profile and reconfigure?
IpadOS 16.1 Beta 1 – OpenVPN not working.
Thanks for reporting. Have you tried to remove the VPN profile and reconfigure?
1.1.1.1 vpn not working . Tried reinstall app , deleted vpn profile and nothing fixed my issue
Thanks for reporting. Have you also tried to Reset Network Settings?
IPSec VPN on iPadOS 16.1 (public beta, build 20B5027F) ist broken. period. Even completely reinstalling my iPad Pro as new device didn’t fix it.
VPN shows as connected in Settings, VPN badge is never shown in the status bar on the top. How they could brake this is beyond me.
Personally I used this to switch to WireGuard (my router supports it), and will hopefully never have to deal with Cisco IPSec again. WireGuard is more secure and way more convenient. They can drop IPSec from iPadOS/iOS if they like.
Thanks for the extended feedback Tim. I guess we’ll have to wait until they fix it in the next betta. We’ve reported this issue (FB11497575), as many others did, so Apple should be definitely aware of it.
They fixed it in the new public beta (20B5045d)
Thanks for confirming Stefan!
After downloading iOS 16 VPNs stopped working. I’ve tried almost everything to fix it nothing has worked. This is probably a bug in iOS 16 because everything was fine the day before I downloaded iOS 16.
Thanks for reporting Mikayela. iOS 16.0.2 has been just rolled out with bug fixes. Check it out and let us know if it helps!
