Apple has just release iOS 16.0.2 build number 20A380 for all compatible iPhone models. This is a small-sized but very important first update that fixes many annoying iOS 16.0 bugs and errors!
iOS 16.0.2 Bugs Fixed
According to the release notes there are 5 issues addressed in this release:
- 1. iPhone 14 Pro camera shaking and vibrating when opened via third-party apps! (FIXED!)
- 2. Black screen issue during device setup. (FIXED!)
- 3. Allow Paste popups showing every time when copy/pasting between apps. (NOT FIXED)
Update: This fix isn’t confirmed yet. Joey informs that he’s still getting the ‘would like to paste from’ permission requests especially for WhatsApp!
“Even with the 16.0.2 Update installed; My iphone 12 pro max is still getting CONSTANT paste permissiom pop-up boxes.”
- 4. Touch screen not working properly for iPhone X, XR and 11 models serviced with aftermarket displays. (NOT FIXED)
Update: Users aren’t confirming the fix. In fact, Sain and Diego report that it accentuates the the touch issues:
“I have an Iphone XR with a third party screen replacement, DON’T UPDATE YET. Tried 16.0.2 since they mentioned a fix for touch screen issues but it didn’t work again. This time the screen was even less responsive.”
- 5. VoiceOver not working after reboot. (FIXED!)
- To be updated!
Apple might have addressed other problems too, as we had over 15 reported issues on our iOS 16.0 review page. If you notice any other fixes don’t hesitate to share them in the comments and we will update them here:

iOS 16.0.2 Download
You can install this release, over-the-air in Settings -> General -> Software Update!
Tap Download and Install and be patient until the update is requested, downloaded, prepared, verified and installed on your iPhone!
iOS 16.0.2 Not Available?
If you’ve already updated to an iOS 16.1 beta version, this release won’t show up even if you delete the iOS 16 Beta Profile and reboot your iPhone.
You have to downgrade if you want to switch back to this public release!
More: If iOS 16.0.2 shows up but you encounter other errors like Software Update Failed tap here to get the fix. The same goes for the Unable to Install Update error!
iOS 16.0.2 Features
Apple hasn’t mentioned any other changes and we don’t expect any new features. Nevertheless, if changes are reported, we’ll share them below:
- 1. Charging On Hold notification on Lock Screen confirms that device is too hot and charging will resume when iPhone returns to normal temperature.
Fact: This notification has been introduced from the initial version, however a series of readers have reported seeing it for the first time only after the iOS 16.0.2 update. We’re keeping an eye on it!
- To be updated!
iOS 16.0.2 Security Update
Apple also mentions important security updates in the release notes. However, at the time of writing, there are no published CVE entries on the appropriate Apple.com support section.
We’ll check back later for updates!
Have you installed iOS 16.0.2 on your iPhone? Did you spot any changes not mentioned here? What about new errors and issues or unfixed bugs? Share your feedback and ask for help in the comments!

ios 16.0.2 for iPhone Xr, was faulty, now the screen not respond at all. I tried reseting the phone several time, send it to DFU, and screen still not responding at all.
Oh, thanks for reporting. So, it doesn’t fix it? It makes it worse? I’ll update the article now.
Exactly what happened to me as well
You can still revert to iOS 15.7. Here is how to:
The touch problem I encountered now fixed. The new update actually solved my clamors
Thanks for the feedback Abdul. Waiting for more confirmations!
I’m seeing “unable to check for update”! What’s wrong? Is this iPhone 14 only again?
Nope, iOS 16.0.2 is available for iPhone 8 or later! You must be on iOS 16.1 beta and that’s why the update isn’t showing up. Here are more details: https://www.iphonetricks.org/unable-to-check-for-update-error-iphone-fix/
after the 16.0.2 update, iPhone XR. No face I.d, touch unresponsive, can’t hard reset. My iPhone is almost completely bricked and unusable.
Sorry to hear this Mark. Did Face ID work in iOS 16.0.1?
Video when being played on WhatsApp in landscape mode, if advanced using the scroll bar, the video hangs and WhatsApp is stuck.
This is happening on iPhone 13 with both ios16 and ios16.0.2.
Thanks for confirming. Tried to replicate it on iPhone 13 Pro , iOS 16.0.2 and it appears to be working fine. Try to reinstall WhatsApp from Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage -> WhatsApp -> Offload App -> Reinstall.
Does it help?
after the 16.0.2 update, iPhone XS. The device is not reliable. The keyboard is jerky, the screen or touch does whatever it wants on the phone, clicks on random things. I don’t even know what to read anymore. Can you give me some advice?
Thanks for reporting. Please check this article: https://www.iphonetricks.org/touch-screen-not-working-on-iphone-ios-16-fix/
iPhone 14 Pro Max running 16.0.2
Just started getting unresponsive black screen. Happened for first time and again within 20 min of each other. was able to revive.
That’s strange. I though iOS 16.0.2 had fixed this! Can you please turn Off Always-On display in Settings -> Display & Brightness? Let me know if it helps.
I updated to Ios16.0.2 on 14 pro max and continue to get copy and paste permissions every time. Very frustrating as I use this very frequently
Thanks for confirming Arron. I know it’s annoying.
popping up after update
Thanks for reporting. In which app does this happen? Everywhere? Have you tried a force restart?
iPhone X with 3rd party screen, touch issue got even worse with 16.0.2 (more tries needed to ‘swipe up to unlock’).
With “Touch Accomodations” I can still do all the rest, but after calls I have to (re)activate T.A. (done with triple click of lock button), or the screen appears frozen (no touch response).
Very frustrating, and I wish downgrading was easier.
Thanks for confirming Rancho. Hoping that Apple will release iOS 16.0.3 with an actual fix this week.
Iphone X with 16.02 is still not working :-(
What is not working?
I have also an aftermarket display on the iPhone x and the touch still doesn’t work correctly
HELP! it may be easy for you but it’s driving me mad…
How do I turn off Do not disturb I have an iPhone X & iOS 16.0.2?
Settings -> Focus -> Do Not Disturb or any other Focus that’s active and might stop notifications on your iPhone.
My iPhone XS screen not working after iOS 16.0.2 plz help meee😭😭
Downgrade to iOS 15.7 as shown here: https://www.iphonetricks.org/how-to-downgrade-ios-16-1-beta-to-ios-16-0-2/
Or use the Touch Accommodations trick. Try to triple-click the side button and see if you can enable Voice Over to navigate Settings.
After update, I can no longer access Facebook – I am putting in the correct password and it keeps asking me if I forgot my password.
You must be doing something wrong… haven’t had any other similar reports. Are you able to sign into facebook from Safari or computer using the same credentials?
iPhone 14 pro and camera with instagram makes a strange “bzz” sound, for one second, when opening it. Once is loads the camera works fine but that weird sound is annoying and scary!
Thanks for reporting Carlos. We’re looking into this.
updating iPhone 13 ProMax 13 to IOS 16.02 all recent phone calls are gone. Resetting Network didn’t fix either.
Thanks for reporting. We’re looking into this. Are calls received or dialed after the update showing up?
IPhone 12 Pro Wi-Fi keep disconnecting on Lock Screen tried everything to fix it but not working as soon I lock the screen it goes off from router
And if someone message me I get them after 5 to 7 minutes
Does anyone know how to fix it ?
Is device in Low Power mode? Is Background app refresh enabled in Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh?
My iPhone 14 Pro Max has 2 bugs after installing iOS 16.0.2. When I have an incoming call, I can’t answer the call, because the screen doesn’t respond to my finger. The swipe movement does not work. It happens randomly. The second bug is that sometimes it doesn’t ring or vibrate when I receive a call. It happens randomly too. When I try to call on this iPhone 14 Pro Max from another mobile several times within a few minutes, sometimes it rings and vibrates and sometimes it doesn’t. Then I can only see an incoming call on the screen. Before updating to iOS 16.0.2, I used it for 2 weeks and did not have these problems.
Thanks for reporting these issues. Just to make sure that you’re testing it correctly:
1. The phone is locked and not in your hand while performing the tests, correct?
2. Are you using a case with high lips on the edges? Try to perform the test case-less. For example, I noticed that the bottom part of my touch screen becomes unresponsive or less-responsive if device is connected to charger. However, as soon as I remove the case the touch screen works normally even when connected to charger.
1. Yes, the phone was locked and lying on the table during testing.
2. Yes, I have a cover with high side edges, but I’ve had this cover since the beginning and I didn’t have these problems for the first two weeks. Therefore, I think that the mentioned problems with the phone cover are not related. It doesn’t matter if the phone is charging or not.
Ok. Thanks for the follow up. Have you tried force restarting? Does it temporary fix the issue?
Hi, force restart didn’t help. Hopefully the next updates will fix it.
Yes, fingers crossed. iOS 16.0.3 release is imminent.
After updating to IOs 16.0.2 my Face ID stop working, screen isn’t smooth while navigating and the volume buttons don’t work at all I have been struggling. I’m using an iPhone XR
Thanks for reporting. Can you confirm if your device ever got a screen replacement, performed by a non-authorized Apple repair shop?
My iphone 12pro has bug as well after updated to IOS16.0.2. Earpiece/handset is not working I cant hear the caller I tried several apps that has voice call, but all has same issue.loudspeaker and airpod are working fine.
Thanks for reporting. You sure that it started happening right after the update? It might be related to a know iPhone 12 problem that currently has a free service repair program offered by Apple. Check it out here:
Battery drain issue is still here and indexing must have been completed by now. Any suggestions?
apple watch mirror connecting forever…it’s stuck on the spinning wheel. can u help?
Force restart Apple Watch and try again. Also make sure that WiFi is enabled on both Watch and paired iPhone. More details here:
portrait camera not working iphone xs issue ios 16.0.2 update later
next new update ios 16.1 apple xs portrait camera working? Dear
Can you be more specific? Do you get a black screen in the viewfinder? Is Portrait option greyed out or not showing at all?
I’m frequently stuck with a black box at the top of the screen. It appears to be the face id animation that’s glitching out. Has this been reported?
Yes, it seems like a common day-one iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max glitch. Thanks for pointing it out. A force restart should temporary fix it:
Charging on hold notification displays almost every time i charge my iphone 14 pro. same for my wife’s 12 pro! phones heat up faster than usual!
Thanks for reporting. We’ve checked it out and it seems like a common issue. It appears to be caused by wireless charging. Try to stay wired until Apple fixes it.
We’ve published a dedicated article over here:
My iphone xs max face id stopped working after ios 16 update. And front camera portrait showing error “move further away”. And proximity sensor also not working during calls.
When i restart phone it works for sometime then stops again.
I have tried resetting my phone. No improvement
Thanks for reporting Ali. Let’s see if iOS 16.1 will fix this. It might be a hardware issue to and the update was a coincidence. We’ve opened up a dedicated thread for this issue. Let’s see what others have to say about it:
extra icloud storage expired alert is showing at least 10 times a day on my iphone! I’m told that device isn’t backed up to iCloud anymore. I’m OK with that, but how do I stop these notifications?
Thanks for reporting. Turn off iCloud backup for your iPhone. Also restart iPhone if needed. More details available here:
airpods pro mic quality is poor after ios 16 update. My voice sounds muffled during calls and other can’t hear me properly. is this common? please report.
Thanks for the feedback Aurora. Yes, apparently others experience the same. Try to reset and re-pair your AirPods. We’ve published a separate article for this issue:
Screen flashes white almost every time I grab the phone and it wakes up to unlock. This hurts my eyes. It only started after i updated to ios 16? Please help me out.
Indeed it does. Thanks for the feedback. We’ve started a separate article about this glitch over here:
It’s been also reported to Apple. Let’s hope that iOS 16.0.3, will fix it!
I have a similar problem. While using my phone I would get white flashes randomly. Sometimes while typing or just scrolling. I recently updated to ios 16.0.3 and it happened a few days later. I did a reboot for now, hope it doesn’t happen again as my iphone 13 promax is just a few months old. Lines would be horizontal.
Thanks for reporting. Have you ever dropped your device or shocked it? If it happens again please record a short video and send it over to email@example.com.
Screen flickers when typing and this hasn’t been fixed in iOS 16.0.2. please report!
Thanks for sharing Enzo. Yes, we’ve found many other similar complaints and have written a dedicated article about it here:
We’ve also reported it to Apple. Thanks for your contribution.
after update to ios 16.0.2 i cant connect to my wifi, my airpods and apple watch, it’s keep disconnecting, i’ve tried to reset network setting, reconnect to all my device, it won’t help at all
Try to clean install, or reinstall iOS 16.0.2 using a computer and and USB to Lightning cable. On Windows you have to download iTunes, on Mac you can use Finder.
Do perform a full backup before proceeding. Use the Restore iPhone option. More details available here:
Let us know if it helps.
it’s not help. after clean install and restore, i still cant connect to my wifi, airpods and apple watch :(
Sorry to hear this. iOS 16.0.3 is out in the meantime. Check it out and let us know if it helps:
Anyone else noticing excessive heat with IOS 16.0.2 when running YouTube in “picture in picture” mode on top of any other app (or home screen)? Heat goes away after going back to full screen. I’m seeing it on both iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Thanks for reporting. I assume that you want to report it for iOS 16.2. Yes, we’ve seen this problem reported in previous 16.x versions too. I assume that you’re running the latest YouTube version for iOS.
Have you tried to reinstall the app?
