You can now enable Apple ProRes on iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max! All that you have to do is update to iOS 15.1 Beta 3 and turn On this new feature from the Camera settings menu. The iOS 15.1 public release is expected next week most likely on Tuesday, October 12 alongside the watchOS 8.1 and the Apple Watch Series 7!

What Is Apple ProRes ?

This is a pro video format that’s used by video professionals for post-production editing.

This feature might not be popular amongst the average iPhone user, especially because ProRes videos require a lot of storage space.

According to Apple, a minute of 10-bit HDR ProRes (4K) takes approximatively 1.7 GB of storage space!

Limitation: In fact, the Apple ProRes feature is limited to 30fps at 1080p on iPhone 13 Pro models with only 128 GB of storage space!

Apple ProRes Not Available ?

First of all please check that your iPhone has been updated to iOS 15.1 or later. You can do this in Settings -> General -> About -> Software Version

Secondly, be aware that ProRes is currently only available on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Any other iOS 15 compatible iPhone won’t get the option in the Camera settings!
