Posted in News by Patricia on October 27, 2022Apple has released iOS 15.7.1 build number 19H117, a different build from the RC (19H115) seeded one week ago. This is a good sign for iPhone users that ended up with a bricked Face ID after the Release Candidate update.
iOS 15.7.1 Update
This release brings security fixes for users that don’t plan to upgrade to iOS 16 yet.
It’s available, over-the-air in Settings -> General -> Software Update on devices running iOS 15.7 / iPadOS 15.7 or earlier.
Tip: It can be also installed with the help of a computer (Mac or Windows) under the form of a clean install or downgrade from iOS 16.1 or any other iOS 16 version.
Fact: For a wired update you need to download the appropriate IPSW file for your iPhone model. You can find the direct links at the end of this article.
iOS 15.7.1 Problems
Apple recommends this update to all users. However, you might want to wait a bit to see if there are any serious bugs surfacing in this new build. We’re listing them here along with available workarounds:

iPhone 12 Pro
15.7.1 is the update that actually broke my FaceID updating yesterday.
Oh boy that’s the last thing I wanted to hear. Can you please let us know if your device ever had a screen replacement done by a third-party repair service?
Nope, all original parts
Ok. We’ve reported it to Apple they should fix it in an upcoming update. Fingers crossed.
the other day i update IOS 15.7.1 but my face id not function.please fix.
Sorry to hear this, but thanks for confirming. We’re trying to find out the trigger for this problem. Can you please inform us if your device ever had a screen replacement done by a third-party repair shop?
Same with me. What type of phone? I have a iPhone Pro 12
Same here never replaced screen. Lost ID Face r Recognition with IOS 15.7.1 Ready for a fix
Thanks for reporting. Downgrade to iOS 15.6 RC and let us know if it helps:

Today, Oct. 29, 2022, at about 9:00 a.m. I attempted to install the 15.7.1 update on my iPhone 11. It seemed to do a download for about 3 minutes, and then flashed a screen saying “update failed”, with no other explanation. I made a second attempt after deleting some unused messaging apps, restarting the phone. Still no success. I have never had my screen replaced. I still have FaceId functionality. Guess it’s good that it failed, after some of what I’ve heard here.
I just upgraded my iPhone Pro 12 to iOS 15.1.7
FaceID is no longer working. The phone is original and has never had a screen replaced.
Is this known to Apple? Will they have a fix?
Yes, it has been reported. We hope they’ll fix it soon. It’s strange though how it only affects a small percentage of users and we can’t find the trigger for the problem.
iPad 7th gen.
Many apps crash on opening after upgrade.
Are there App Store updates available for them?
updated my iphone 7 to 15.7.1 and now it doesnt turn on bruh, help
Ups. Have you tried to force restart it?
Up dated to 15.7.1 on iPhone SE 1sr Gen
Now my Mail shows “your network settings prevent contents from loading privately” and I have to load the content manually
This issue was reported in the early iOS 15 versions too. Do the tips listed here help?
mobile network does not work anymore after update on iPhone 7 Plus
Thanks for reporting. Are you able to dial and receive cellular calls?
15.7.1 updated in iPhone 6s, but the phone is hanging frequently
I Downloaded IOS15.7.1 version on my iPhone 7 but I’m not able to install it….it says I’m not connected to internet which I’m very much connected to.
That’s strange. Force restart your device and try again.
My iPhone SE 2nd Gen running 15.7.1 keeps losing its Haptics sounds, and notification sounds.
Thanks for the feedback. Have you noticed a pattern? You see it keeps losing, how do you make them come back?
ios 15.7.1 is beng downloaded on my phone but it cant be installed. it says I am not connected to an internet but I am connected. I have been restartin my phone doing it again and again but still did not works. Now I am trying to update through my desk top pc by itunes..Waiting fot the update to be finish…..
Yes, that’s a good workaround. Let us know if it completes properly.
Just updated to 15.7.1 and now it’s continually asking me to “Enter your passcode to start a backup.” Very annoying.
When are you seeing this, when connecting iPhone to computer? Can you share a screenshot at contact[at]iphonetricks.org please?
Are you using third-party backup app on Mac or iPhone?
Sorry I can’t remember my email login.
This message appears when I connect/tether my iPhone to my Mac (via USB cable.)
This message also appears when I turn on or turn off the iPhone’s mobile data (iPhone > Settings > Mobile > Mobile Data) when my iPhone is still connected to the Mac.
I’m not using a third party backup app on the Mac or the iPhone.
The screen is very much like my iPhone’s initial login screen…
Enter passcode to start a backup
This sheds some more light on the subject….
https://talk.tidbits.com/t/suddenly-having-to-enter-passcode-when-backing-up-an-unlocked-iphone/20376/21
Here’s the reason the passcode is continually required….
https://imazing.com/blog/ios-backup-passcode-prompt
“Since iOS and iPadOS versions 16.1 and 15.7.1, released 24 October 2022, Apple introduced a new security measure to mitigate the security issue raised by CVE-2022-32929, requiring users to enter their device passcode every time a local backup is about to start.”
Those Linux phones are looking more attractive every day.
After update I cannot open my phone. A text box is stuck saying Software Update Your iPhone has been updated to ios 15.7.1. That will not go away. I cannot enter my passcode and cannot swipe to turn off my phone. Nothing is working.
Thanks for reporting. What iPhone model? What options do you have for the pop up? Can you perform a screenshot and send it over to contact[at]iphonetricks.org?
Tip: Try to force restart using the Volume controls and the Side Button or the Home button if you own an older model.
I have iphone 7 I have uptaded to 15.7.1 and now imessage is not supported, and I have no notifications in Viber and messenger. What sould I do???
Have you tried to turn off iMessage and turn it back On in Settings -> Messages?
About Viber and Messenger. Try to reinstall the apps.
My iPhone 6s just keeps turning off – seems to happen since update to 15.7.1. There is usually plenty of battery life yet when it happens but after it turns off only way to get it back is to recharge and at that point it says little battery life – as if something is causing sudden and total battery leak. Battery status says 100%, so don’t think that is the issue. Any tips?
Have you tried enabling Low Power Mode. Other users reported that iPhone stops rebooting when its enabled. Not sure what to say about powering off though. Try it out and let us know.
I have downgraded my iPhone SE 2020 from iOS 16.1.2 to iOS 15.6RC. Now I would like to update it to v15.7.1
Unfortunately I cannot update on my iPhone. So I downloaded the Image but iTunes gives me an error:
Unknown error 3194
Thanks for reporting. Make sure that there’s no firewall active on your computer. Also update to the latest version of iTunes for windows and make sure that you are using a genuine Lightning to USB cable to connect.
Are you trying to restore to 15.7.1 or 15.7.1 RC?
P.S.: iOS 15.7.2 is the latest 15 version and is available for your iPhone SE. Here are all the details:
https://www.iphonetricks.org/ios-15-7-2-not-available-iphone-ipad/
Thank you for your reply. I’m trying to restore this image:

You wrote in your post, that 15.7.2 is only for iPhone SE 1st. gen. I have an SE 2nd generation.
Unfortunately, there is no iOS 15.7.2 ipsw available for iPhone SE 2nd gen.
You can try with the iOS 15.7.1 RC for iPhone SE 2. It’s this one over here:

Let us know if it works.
I did it your method and I have a 15.6 RC(I have a iphone 11). But I did not update 15.7.1 with ota. I want to use 15.7.1 or anyone main ios version. Can anyone help me?
Yes, we’re working on a guide for that as we speak. Stay tuned!
