In iOS 16 you can finally delete duplicate photos on iPhone natively. This new feature is able to automatically detect duplicate images in the Photos app, group them in a distinct album and allow you to individually or group merge them.

Find Duplicate Images

  • 1. First you have to open the Photos app and tap on the Albums tab.
  • 2. Then, scroll all the way down to the Utilities section.
  • 3. Tap on Duplicates and you’ll find all cloned pictures available in the CameraRoll.
  • Merge Duplicate Photos

  • 4. Check out the duplicated content. You can Merge them individually or use the Select option (top-right corner) to Select All duplicates and Merge them with a single tap.
  • Fact: When you select all Duplicates, there’s also the option to Delete them. This will remove all instances, without keeping one. When merging you will only delete the duplicates, triplicates while a single variation is saved.

    iOS 16 automatically lists both duplicate photos and videos filtered by creation date.

    If you want to merge only the cloned videos you can proceed as follows:

    • Tap the three-dots icon in the top-right corner.
    • Select the Filter Option.
    • Go back and tap Select -> Select All and merge duplicate videos!

    Tip: If you merge duplicate photos and. videos you will free up iPhone storage space without sacrificing any data!

    Important: Merged photos and videos remain available for 30 days in the Recently Deleted album and you can recover them if the Duplicates feature glitched out and deleted photos that weren’t actually duplicates.
