Related: Apple has also seeded iOS 16.2 (20C65), iPadOS 16.2 (20C65), macOS Ventura 13.1 (22C65), tvOS 16.2 (20K362) and HomePod 16.2.
Watch v6, is 9.2 (updated last night) and battery drained like crazy today.
Thanks for reporting. First day can be blamed on reindexing. If you have the same battery problems after 48 hours, please let us know. Also mention if you suspect any triggers, like a specific third-party app?
Yes my watch still have the issue of battery draining even after 48 hours of 9.2 upgrade
Thanks for confirming. Have you tried to unpair and re-pair it to your iPhone?
Battery draining is very fast 100% to 0% in less than four hours. Spent an hour at an Apple Store running diagnostics. Battery is in perfect condition. Is Apple going to provide a free replacement for constantly burning through the battery?
Don’t think so. Have you asked them at the Apple Store to reinstall watchOS 9.2 on your device?
You can also try to reinstall iOS 16.2 on your iPhone. It might help. Here is how to:
I had the same problem. Battery went from 82% to 18% during 6+ hours sleep. Normal drain is to low 80’s% from full charge. I couldn’t charge to full before bed last night because the battery drained to the low teens % yesterday. Normally when I put it on the charger before bedtime it’s in the low 50’s %. I did an unpair re-pair today and it slowed the drain a little. I went from 97% at about 10 am to 40% less than 5 hours later. I’ve also rebooted the watch a couple of times today. Battery health is 93%. Watch is series 5.
Thanks for the extended feedback. Running some tests over here and will be back with more info.
Same problem for me and doesn’t get fixed even after the force restart
Same problem I’m having.
Have you tried un to unpair and re-pair the Apple Watch?
Same problem for me.
Thanks for confirming. Can you mention Apple Watch model please. We have it confirmed for Series 5 and 6, so far.
Same here on ultra. 20% in 1 hour.
Thanks for confirming Josh. Does unpairing and re-pairing Apple Watch to iPhone fix it?
Having battery drain problem in Apple Watch 7 , battery draining very fast , have done reboot , pair and unpair also
Thanks for reporting. Have you tried to uninstall all third-party apps and see if it helps?
My iphone watch will not update to 9.2. My iphone is 8+ it says paused for 3 hours
What Apple Watch model are you using?
Complication for Sunrise/Set no longer displays the sunrise/set time and hours until. Only says Sunrise/Set.
Thanks for pointing this out. I can confirm it, same unexpected behavior on my Watch. I will report this to Apple via the feedback app after publishing this reply. Let me know if you spot anything else.
Same here. Many restart of watch and phone, even unpaired/ paired again, noch change, really annoying!
Sorry to hear this. Not sure what else to suggest at the moment.
Hi, I’m having the same issue, one whole charge only lasts 3-4 hours without any notification turned on, from almost 18 hours that lasted before with whatsapp, e mail, facebook messenger and incoming calls turned on. I have a series 5 gps -lte.
Thanks in advance for any possible fix.
Thanks for the feedback. This seems a wide spread issue. I would recommend you to start trimming down apps. Uninstall third-party apps that you rarely use and even those that you use often. In fact, uninstall all third-party apps from your Apple Watch and see if it has an impact on battery performance.
Thanks for the promptly response, I’ll keep you updated
No problem. Feedback no. for this issue is: FB11876550
Battery has died and now watch won’t turn on at all after updating to 9.2
Ups. I assume it’s connected to a charger correct? Are you seeing the snake screen? Or there’s nothing displayed on the screen?
We detailed the watchOS 9.2 battery issue here:
Hi, my watch and battery are fully functional again, what i did is the following:
– I enrolled in the beta program for watch os (it didn’t work).
– I un enrolled from the beta program for watch os (it didn’t work).
– I Unpair my device from my IPhone then pair it again and erase all the apps that i barely use.
And now the battery lasts even longer
Great to hear this. I will update your troubleshooting tips over here:
Let’s hope it will help others!
My watch 7 has the same drain issues and battery quality down from 92% to 90 % since the drain happened
Have you tried the fixes mentioned in this article?
Sunset/sunrise is down after 9.2 update
Yes, it is. Thanks for confirming. We’ve reported it to Apple: FB11881261
After updating to 9.2, my Watch ultra began to drain the battery super fast, didn’t get a whole day. After formatting 3 things now is a bit better but I only can get 2 days in 100% when before updating it last 3,5/4 days with same usage.
I’m beginning to get tired of updates from apple, in all devices but MacBook, it always drains battery update after update. The only time when it’s well, is only when they are new.
Thanks for your feedback Ricardo. Yes, these battery issues have been really annoying in watchOS 9 and iOS 16. I totally understand your frustration. Have you also force restart iPhone and Watch in the same time?
Hello! I’ve tried and it’s better like gave me almost 3 days, but before I could get 3,5 days 4 days. It’s still worst then before.
I’ve realized that in iPhone, Apple Watch in all releases the duration it’s always worst then before. It’s the rigging that drives me “crazy” in Apple .
After updating from 9.0.2 to 9.2, the Medications complication is no longer available to select (at least for the Modular watch face), and the complication location previously defined for it is now set to “Off.”
Thanks for sharing. Have you tried to reboot Apple Watch to see if it makes a difference?
I have the same issue. First time it happened I was able to get the medications comp. back no problem. This morning, it was gone and not even available in list of comp., but it’s in the app list. I’m on a Series 4 Watch, OS is current on all devices. Another issue, Now Playing app doesn’t work like it’s supposed to – doesn’t open when audio plays on iPhone, and usually disappears shortly after I manually open the app. Two new issues cropped up in the last month. Is my Watch 4 done for?
Thanks for sharing. Is your watch updated to the recently released watchOS 9.5?
Since the update, I do not get notifications, it won’t awaken when I raise my wrist, I have to hit the crown button. I’ve unpaired and paired it 2x now. Really annoying.
Thanks for sharing. Not sure what else to suggest at the moment. We’ve reported this issue to Apple.
Update: Did you accidentally turned on Theater Mode in Control Center? The two mask icon?
Since the update, my watch and my daughter’s watch won’t turn on. I tried a restart but he Applie icon never appears so that I can power it off.
Try to Apply the force restart combo:
Thanks, but I tried that and it didn’t work. What I did was put it back on the charger and let it sit for approx. 2 hours. After that, it came back! All is good now.
Glad you managed to fix it.
I have been ushing apple watch se 2nd gen since 29th Dec and now i am facinf the same problem of rapid battery discharge since i updated to 9.2
Thanks for reporting. Perform the reboot of both devices as described here:
Apple Watch 8 not glowing up automatically for notifications and calls after updating to 9.2, I have to raise my wrist to see the notifications.
