Posted in Bug Fixes by Patricia on August 23, 2021Are you trying to check the available space on your iOS device but iPhone Storage is not loading? The graph is stuck on ‘Calculating category sizes…’, while a spinning wheel is displayed in a loop instead of the list with the storage breakdown by app? Results are not showing up no matter how long you wait?
How To Fix iPhone Storage Not Loading
This bug has been recently reported during the iOS 15 beta testing stages! Apply the following troubleshooting tips to get around the glitch:
1. Be Patient
We’ve managed to replicate the issue and the iPhone storage details showed up after around three minutes of staring at the spinning wheel. However, there’s is no guarantee that patience will bring the desired results. So, if you’re no willing to wait it out, proceed to the next option!
2. Force Quit Settings
- Open the App Switcher (swipe-up from the bottom of the screen or double-click the Home button on older iPhone models).
- Swipe the Settings card up and dismiss it from the screen to force close the app.
- Return to the Home Screen and relaunch Settings.
- Browse for General -> iPhone Storage. Is it still not loading?
3. Reboot iPhone
The next option to fix iPhone Storage not showing is to force restart your device. A fresh iOS boot will flush minor glitches and should fix this issue.
How to: Click & release Volume Up followed by Volume Down. Next, press & hold the Side Button until the Apple logo is displayed on the screen. Release and be patient while the iPhone reboots. Provide your passcode and check if iPhone Storage loads without glitches!
4. Connect iPhone To Computer
If the problem persists grab your Lightning cable and plug your iPhone into your Mac or Windows computer. Syncing the smartphone with a computer should fix the iPhone storage bug. Does it? Use the comments section and let us know.
Other iPhone Storage Bugs
This iOS feature has been quite glitchy during the iOS 15 beta testing. Besides the always loading issue, iPhone Storage can fail and display results that are obviously not correct:
iPhone Storage Inaccurate Results
A Reddit user has posted a screenshot that shows the iPhone Storage app displaying Zero Kb of space used out of 64 GB available.
The graph seems to be accurate though and you can visually aproximate how much free space there is left on the device.
Update: We’ve published more ways to fix the iPhone Storage bug in iOS 15!

I’m my case, also when you go to about iPhone, it says capacity of 256GB and available 262GB. I’m having this two bugs since I updated to the last beta. I even took screen shots from all the bugs and reported to apple but till now, no answer…
Thanks for your feedback. Apple usually won’t reply to your feedback inquiry but they will analyze your input. iOS 15 Release Candidate should be released soon and has to include all latest fine tunes.
I have the same saying i have 136gb available when my iphone is 128
I installed ios 15 release candidate and it didnt fix anything
Thanks for reporting. It means that they haven’t managed to fix the bug yet.
I have the iOS 15 RC and it still have both bugs. Zero Kb of 128gb used and then the about section of iPhone says I have 129.16 gb available
Thanks for reporting Marcus. Yes, still plenty of bugs showing up. There are high chances of us getting an iOS 15 RC 2 before the public release. It should come out today if that’s the case.
Yep same issue here on an iPhone 12 Pro Max with 256 GB of storage available. I know that I am using around 40GB but my phone is floating between reporting 2.9 to about 9.7 GB used. I actually did not in my case see this bug until I update to the RC.
Thanks for reporting. Let’s hope the Apple will correct it until the public release.
I have same problem like others my Iphone 11 storage is 128gb I know I’m using 52gb of it but it’s showing that only 44gb is used day by day it decreasing from 44gb to 42gb and so on, please help me whats the problem my documents may deleted or no ?
Most likely there is no problem with your documents and you’re dealing with the iOS storage bug. Practically iOS is not able to accurately predict the amount of storage available and used. This should be fixed in an upcoming update.
mines doing the exact same! my app storage is also frozen so it doesn’t say how much storage they’ve used!
Thanks for reporting.
Hey its the same for me, i have ios 15.0.2 and its showing 20GB used out of 128 even tho i know like a week ago i had 65 GB used, did you find any solutions?
Thanks for confirming. There’s no fix available at the moment. We have to wait for another software update to have this fixed.
I have the same issue on my 2021 iPad Pro 12.9,is says Zero KB out of 128GB when in reality there should be around 30gb usedalso the about tab says I have 130.43gb available, I just updated to the public release from the 15 beta RC, it has been an issue since around beta 6 or 7 is when I first noticed it.
Thanks for reporting. If you have a backup you could try to wipe out the iPad and restore it to see if it fixes the storage bug. Else, I guess that you have to wait for a fix coming with a subsequent iPadOS 15.x update. Or, perhaps someone can share with us a working fix, because at the moment there is none that I am aware of.
I have also face same problem. My iphone se 2020 after updating iOS 15 stable version.
It also shows free space 84 GB out of 64 GB.
Thanks for reporting.
mine still doesn’t load ! its so irritating , I’ve done everything but it doesn’t work !
Have you updated to iOS 15.0.1?
I’ve updated it to the iOS 15.0.1 and having this issue, mines says “Zero KB of 128 GB Used” like that is so weird. How do you fix that problem?
Thanks for reporting. Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do about it. Although I am surprised that you’re still getting it, because Apple has mentioned in the iOS 15.0.1 release notes that it fixes the iPhone Allmost Full storage bug described here!
I also have iOS 15.0.1 and get “Zero KB of 32 GB Used” in the iPhone Storage section.
Thanks for reporting. Apparently this has been fixed in iOS 15.1 Beta 3. Still waiting for more confirmations though.
I have the same issue zero KB of 64GB used.
Thanks for reporting. Hoping that this will be fixed soon!
I’m also on iOS 15.0.1, on iOS 14 I had around 27 GB of 64 GB used, but now it says only 12 GB of 64 GB Used.
That’s not necessarily a bug if you downloaded other apps or media in the meantime. Did you update directly to iOS 15.0.1? or you have also installed iOS 15.0 before?
I installed iOS 15 before iOS 15.0.1, since that I have this issue when I was on iOS 14 , storage calculation was working fine. Now it’s showing far less storage what it actually is
Yes, it’s a widespread bug. Can you update to iOS iOS 15.0.2 and let us know if anything changes?
Update:
Now it says 6GB out of 64GB used, it is just keep shrinking, it is obvious that I have used more storage than it
My iPhone se 2nd gen and my grandmas 13 pro both say zero kb
What software version iOS 15.0.1?
I updated to ios15.0.1 and my phone storage say zero kb of 256 gb used and my phone is 256 gb and say 169 gb available
Thanks for confirming this bug. Still waiting for a fix.
My iPhone 8 shows Zero KB used of 64 GB
The supposed fix (new iOS 15 update) didn’t fix the problem. Is this a bug? Will there be another update to correct this issue? Or should I take my phone to the AT&T store-Can they fix this?
Very Annoying.
Judie, this is a bug and yes, apparently iOS 15.0.2 hasn’t fixed it either. No, brining it to an AT&T store won’t help as this is an iOS related issue. You just have to be patient until apple addresses it in an upcoming update.
I noticed in my phone storage an 8.4 MB “software update” that it won’t allow me to delete, but my phone shows its up to date with iOS 15.0.2. Is this normal or is there something weird going on?
Can you please send a screenshot of this to: contact@iphonetricks.org ?
I am having the same issue of my storage continually shrinking. It says I have 8.5GB out of 64GB used and I have the latest updated installed.
Thanks for your report Tina. iOS 15.1 will be out next week. Let’s hope that it will address this iPhone storage issue.
Yeah I’m having same problem on iPhone XR 64gb
Thanks for confirming. What iOS version are you on?
My iPhone X tells me that it has 338gb available but it only has 256gb capacity. Also, it won’t sync at present. Keeps failing to back up and then tells me that it can’t sync because the session failed to finish.
Have you updated your device to iOS 15.1?
Same here called apple s support was on the phone for two hours even spoke to a Apple professional not able to fix the issue and this happened since I did the update to 15 again it’s not showing me the proper storage my phone is iPhone 12 pro hopefully Apple will fix this problem soon
Thanks for the feedback. Has this been fixed by iOS 15.4 at your end?
I have an iPhone XR, I’m on iOS 15.0, I have done all the steps and it still won’t show me my storage menu
Yes, it’s an iOS 15.0 bug. Update to 15.1 and it should fix it. Are there any reasons why you’re not updating to 15.1?
Force restart worked on my iPhone X, thanks a lot!
You’re welcome. Glad we could help!
Having same problem in my iphone 12 with ios 15.2 version. I have updated my IOS version today IOS 15.2.
I follow the the same hard reboot process and its fixed the issue at this moment but issue comes again after 10-15 days.
So this needs to be fixed by Apple pushing with latest IOS release. Hope they will fix this in future update.
Thanks for the feedback Kamal. Yes, this iPhone storage issue seems not to be fixed yet.
Mine keeps loading but the storage keeps saying i’ve used less and less each time it said 48.4 then it reduced to 32.2
Thanks for the feedback Tom. Is that in iOS 15.2?
I am only trying to delete unused apps and the loading circle is taking forever !! I dunno what to do …
Try to delete them in the App Library.
i have an XR and was so glad to find this!! i deleted settings and went thru the app library and it worked. Settings is back on home screen and it’s working.
I have an XS that is now on ios 15.1 and am having this issue. I had to completely wipe my phone and back everything back onto it because I had no storage. It said half was being used by settings. After wiping it and updating I got all of my storage space back but now it takes 10 minutes for storage to load.
Thanks for sharing this Daniela. Yes, this is a common iOS 15 issue. Give it a bit more time to index after reinstalling. It might fix itself in a couple of days. Keep us updated.
I already updated it to ios 15.2 but still my iphone storage is still calculating and it doesn’t show any apps at all. I want to offload some apps but the apps doesn’t appear and it’s all loading. I waited for hours and hours and it still doesnt show. What to do about it?
Thanks for reporting this. Have you tried force restarting the device and checking the iPhone Storage again?
I’ve updated to the most recent IOS, but I still face the problem of it not showing. I have force restarted it and it showed up then but won’t show up anymore.
Thanks for the feedback. You’re talking about iOS 15.2.1 correct? It means that the bug still hasn’t been addressed by Apple.
By following 3. Reboot iPhone above iPhone storage is appearing in a normal way. Thanks
Thanks for confirming. Glad we could help.
I did that and it and checked it, and it worked. When I tried to check it the second time, it didn’t work. I did this several times and the same results.
Thanks for reporting. Is it still happening in iOS 15.4.1?
Continuous buffering on iPhone storage
That’s frustrating I know. No help from a restart?
No help. I’ve performed all the steps, and still nothing. What sucks is that my phone has entered “billing problem” stage, where I have to enter Credit Card information to just UPDATE an app, and I found this life hack that I can offload and reload the app, but without the ability to actually gain access to my iPhone storage, I can never do it. Just some of the many problems I’ve had with the iPhone XR that are making me want to make the switch to Samsung/Google Pixel
Thanks for the feedback Stoss. Do you have any recent backup? You could try to restore your iPhone from a backup and see if it helps you get the iPhone Storage section loading again.
be patient?really?im annoyed enough with my device, then i stumbles upon this poor excuses of an article.what a bunch of garbage.stop reading after be patient
Get a nap, relax, comeback and continue reading.
I have the same problem it still not working I get bored with this really
Sorry to hear this. Perhaps iOS 16 will bring a fresh start to the iPhone storage reporting. We will have to wait and see.
15.5 and storage just spins
My iPad is on same 15.5 and storage loads fine.
Is there any difference between the % of occupied storage on the two devices? Is the iPhone almost full?
Thanks for the feedback Deborah. Is your storage almost full? It’s spinning for me too but only between 5 – 10 seconds.
I have iphone 7 32 gb the storage is still not loading at all, even after all those steps :( . I have ios 15.6 and after connecting to my pc its going mad sometimes 31gb used after a min maybe 29 then again 30 wtf is happening and not showing any apps storage just buffering. It’s so irritating.
Sorry to hear this Snehashish. We were expecting this problem to be fixed once and for all by the iOS 15.6 update that confirms that a solution has been included for the erroneous iPhone storage full bug: https://www.iphonetricks.org/ios-15-6-problems-issues-should-i-update-new-features/
Not sure what else to suggest excepting the extreme option of Resetting and Restoring iPhone from backup as described here:
https://www.iphonetricks.org/how-to-fix-iphone-storage-bug/
P.S.: iOS 16 is due in a couple of weeks. Let’s hope that it will fix these storage issues once and for all.
